What are the fundamental casting differences between these intakes? E.G. port sizes, TB size, plenum volume, power band, top and and bottom end...

You may only see small gains with the LS6 intake but when you combine it with headers, heads and cam, you see bigger gains than with a LS1 intake.

I can tell you the LS1 intake is not very top end powerband friendly, I spent the extra money for the LS6, but I did other mods so I'm not sure what the total contribution was.

+1 I've thought about this myself. I know the FAST works great when you have CNC heads that flow well. But I have 243's and a mild cam. I wonder if the TPIS modded LS6 is a better choice.

Their oval TB also looks interesting but they want $500 for it.

I just now found out that the LS6 intake has more plenum volume than the LS1 intake. Even more so, the LQ9 truck intake has the most plenum volume. Would the LQ9 intake outshine the LS6 intake in both torque and hp (assuming I modified my hood to fit)?

Here is another way to look at it, find ANY other bolt on mod that makes that amount of WHEEL hp and compare the cost of that part. Point being I cant think of a mod that gives you more power for your dollar.

Back on topic is it worth it, HELL yes. Like someone else stated there is a reason there is a 300 dollar difference in the intakes, people are almost giving away the LS1 intake, the only way I would bypass that mod is if you have very little cash and need to get a project running or something of that nature.

thats a carbed intake

should have been more specific like the guy below, with the extent of the description, more difficult, very expensive, have to buy conversion pieces to make it work with the throttle body etc, not a bad intake but I think a bad suggestion for this guy.

If you go to the track, it is worth it. Every tenth counts.

You will have to mod you hood or get a different hood and you will have to do some cutting on your cowl for a victor jr to clear...unless you are a serious racer at the track all the time you can't beat the LS6 intake for the HP produced for the money spent ...or if you want to spend a lot more money for a ported fast and a larger TB...the victor jr or GM's intake makes more HP in the high RPM range but you will have to do port matching and porting to the intake to squeez the most from it..none to that is inexpensive ...

Since the single planes were mentioned, how about the distribution differences bewteen the "crossram" style LSx manifolds and the single planes.

Just looking at combustion patterns on pistons tops, I noticed it looks more consistent cylinder-to-cylinder with the Vic Jr than any of the LS1/LS6/FAST manifolds.

Anyone ever lost #7?

If you look in the summit catalog you can get an EFI version for 100 to 200 dollars more than the LS6 and you can get a sheet metal elbow for $225 (PM me if you want the place). Then if you mill the intake and elbow down a little you can get them to fit with maybe a small amount of modification to the cowl.
