Anyone interested in testing an adjustable belt tensioner on a GTO? I think the f-body tensioner I make will fit but I don't have a GTO to test on. For being a test victom I will give you a free tensioner.

Is there any benefit to going this route vs. the auto tensioner? Besides have another good looking part in the engine?

If no one else steps up I'll test it...shoot me a PM! BTW, this is my first post...migrated over from ls1gto and drive an 06 goat.

I have the Katech model. Same thing as "ed's" piece but ed has a better price and looks nice too.

They do more than look good, they keep the belt from getting thrown off when you smack the throttle....and they also extend the life of the serpentine belt BIG TIME. Since I got my fixed tensioner from Katech I have the same belt, 7 years old and its still perfect.

The cheesy factory tensioner alolows the belt to bouce and stretch over time. Yo ucan see that just after 4-5 months on the little indicators on the factory tensioner. With these fixed tensioners, no belt bouncing, which menas no belt stretch.

I'll start off my review with the quality of product Ed produces. I am around manufacturing everyday so I see a lot of machined parts. The first thing I noticed about this tensioner is that no expense was taken when machining these pieces. Even the fasteners he used were top of the line. Overall a great looking and functional piece to add to the engine over the stock tensioner.

My ride = 2006 GTO, Kooks LT's, High flow cats, Borla Cat-Back, K&N CAI, 92mm Fast Intake, B&M shifter, and soon to be Dyno Tune. (Parts in garage ready to be installed: Monster 3.5, BMR Drive Shaft, NGK Plugs, SLP 160 Degree Thermostat, MSD Plug Wires, Vararam CAI, and OMEGA Thermister.)



As far as the install:

I removed the pulley while the stock tensioner was on the engine, made it easier to remove! Before I removed the belt, I felt the stock tension on the belt to gauge how much I would need with the manual tensioner.

Ed's tensioner installed without pulley. It bolted right on, perfect fitment.

Finished Product. I double checked the offset to ensure the belt was aligned with all the other pulleys, and it was perfect.





I've had the manual tensioner on for close to a week and it still has the same tension as when I installed it. This is one thing I won't have to worry about again, besides replacing the bearing in the pulley.

I have put on close to 500 miles with the new tensioner and have been checking it regularly. It hasn't moved, still the same tension as when I installed it. It's definitely an eye catcher as well! Much appreciated for letting me test this Ed.

Mine is on and working well as stated by Ntstengh. I'm trying to make it work with my Vacuum pump now. I'll have the new belt for the pump this week and should have it installed this weekend.

Great product at this point.
