Waterpump - which one to use?

Default Waterpump - which one to use?

I have a LY5 (5.3) out of an 08 Sierra. I want to change the upper hose how it enters the water pump. Currently it comes in from the top and I have issues with either the hose kinking or it touching the underside of my air intake. I'm thinking that if it came in from the front of th emotor I would be better off.

Thoughts? Which pump should I use? The pump from an 01 Camaro w/5.7 is less expensive than the pump from an 04 Corvette - why? Which is better? Different how? Will either bolt up to my motor without issues? And use the same thermostat and housing?

I'm not sure about fitment of the pumps, but IF the f-body pump will work, go with it. They are very reliable, and do a great job. Many people running 25% underdrive crank pulleys on 400rwhp+ cars with no cooling issues at all, including myself. Thats not to say the vette pump isn't any better, but if you're looking to save a little $$$ then the F-body pump is the way to go if it will wok in your app.

That sounds positive... Do you know if there is a difference between the F body and Vette water pump? Is one higher flowing than the other? The Vette pump is more money....

i like the oem fbody pump! its what im going with same with the oem oil pump.. i just see no reason for a mild build to go with any different.

Mine's stock, but I do tow with it.


Just to be sure, the f body water hose comes in from the direction of the radiator, right?

So now I'm learning there are differences in the belt location and if I run an F body with my truck accessories, the belt won't stay on.

Short of replacing all the mounts/damper, how do I make this work?

I am thinking the f-body and the corvette use the same pump. The belt rides in a different location hence the wide pulley.

Default I need the same answer for a different reason!

I'm swapping an 2005 LH6 5.3L from an Envoy into a 1954 GMC. Both hoses need to come out straight forward. The lower is obviously easy. The upper is not so easy.

With truck pulleys which pump will bolt on and use a forward pointing upper inlet for the radiator hose???

One difference seems to be that there is a long pump (truck) and short pumps (car) so the belts don't align.

On second thought that pic of the GTO pump ( post #5) may just work with the truck accessories...and to LH6-DOD-54-GMC there is a company that makes a forward pointing inlet thermostat housing...just can't remember which company it is right now...
