Default safe rev for 402

What is the safe rpm for a forged 402 callies rods and crank, wiesco pistons, patriot stage3 patriot dual gold springs, cam is 236-242, 595 lift+ cran adjustable alum full roller rockers 1.85 ratio, if i'm not mistaking the card recomended 3000-7000 for cam, what do you's think i should shift at, i will be putting on dyno soon to tune it, i will see the power curve then. it is a 6 speed. headers etc..

I say nothing over 7K. If you had your car dynoed look at your graph and see where the power is falling off. Sometimes it doesn't pay to keep going in the RPM range if the engine is dying out. My opinions, motors with bigger strokes require less and less RPM to do the job but it all depends on the setup.

Just my .02 cents

Its all about your valve train, the bottom end is fine for 7500 rpms.

Bigger strokes equates to more cubic inches and bigger is always better Your right though the more cubic inches you have the quicker the power comes on and the less rpm you need to run to make power. No cons to a bigger engine, only pro's.

What kind of valve locks? What damper? Oil pump, pan and pickup? Timing chain? And, just curious, what rear end do you have in the car? Those are some good strong parts you mentioned so far and they certainly are good to over 7k rpm. Once tuned you'll know when to shift.

7,000 revs is a lot for a bigger otor but theya re all good aprts that you have. the real test is see what the dyno says. theres no need to spin it to the moon if you can make the power early on and shift

I turned my 402 to 7600 with no problems. I would look at you dyno graph, and shift 200 or 300 rpm past where it peaks. I would start at 6500 and go from there. Chances are it will peak around 6800 rpm. It will all depend on what intake you're running.

I would agree with most everyone else. You have alot of good parts. I bet it is safe to 7000 for sure.
