ITB's under the cowl of an e36 BMW
Man I've had a set of ITB's up and running in this e36 chassis for 5 years. First on an ls1 now on an ls2. As for tuning...you just need a good tuner! Of course my set-up which originated in Australia does have a common plenum area...albeit not a large volume. I had to build left and right side plenums which are fed by a common airbox tucked above the rad and behind the kidney grill. It acts as ram air at speed.
You can set the idle at practically any rpm you would like. The ITB's do tame cams big time!
With the 50mm ITB's, My stock ls2 with a cam and good pushrods, roller rockers, headers makes 427 RWHP on a load type dyno (Mustang). So I am not sure if they make huge power, but they seem to keep a nice flat torque curve...at least in my application with limited volume plenums.
Spraying Nitrous I did manage to get the car over 300 KPH at a Top Speed event up here in Canada. The event is running again in 2012, where I am tempted to replace the old T56 with a Magnum for a little better top speed (less underdriven 6th gear)

Roberto: "Sure, just a sec" ...... opens both doors, lowers diffuser, opens rear clip, removes air filters, closes rear clip, raises diffuser, closes both doors...."okay, let's race ... hey, where'd you go?"

My Harrop never made what I had hoped for, but it lost nothing with the plenum and filter in place, in fact it gained about 5hp when we installed it, though it was after a cool down. So I am not 100% on the gain. It also fit under a stock WS6 hood with very little mods. The Ram Air will not hurt either.
The tubing and elbows are 4".

One his was specific to a GTO. He also noted 25rwhp loss with it installed.
So I thought the Ram Air connection and a clean air flow into the boxes would help remove the restrictions, if not prove a gain at speed.
His openings and air path were poor. sharp turns and long narrow openings. Mine is almost as smooth as you can get, with 4" piping doing the feeding.

Cool factor alone should be worth the effort

Finally measured it.
It is 7.5" from the top of the stock valley cover to the top of my plenums flange. All I modified was under the windshield there is metal that encloses the wiper mechanism. On the drivers side it hangs a little lower, I massaged that upwards about 1/4" and it still cleared the linkages.

How much did that setup cost? (i've heard 15-20k for carb Kinsler stuff, so I'm really curious)
