I have a Gen IV 6.0L block and a T56 from an F body. I ordered up an F body high torque gear reduction starter and it doesn't even come close to fitting. The solenoid is directly above motor and fouls with the crank sensor and who knows what else if you were able to keep going up.
I figured an F body starter would fit any LS block. It doesn't. So what starter does fit this block with my F body flywheel?

what brand is the starter? The AC Delco starter for the truck and ls1 f-body are the same size, just different bolts, ie one uses two long, the other one long one short bolt. I was going to get a high tq starter, but read reviews on here that people had issues with them fitting.

Man, it's hard to be stupid. Gosh, of all people I should have known that!
Maybe the starter fits with 4th gen headers but my headers for 3rd gen will not let it fit. I had to mount starter upside down. That means I'll have to disassemble the starter and drill new drain tubes in the housings. Not sure if it will clear my tubular K-member but it might.
I'll bet a factory starter fits. Problem is I don't want a Delco Remy starter because they make total crap. Any factory starters that are not Delco Remy?

This is an old thread, but I'm hitting the same problem.
I'm installing an LS3 eRod in a '69 Camaro. Believing the motor to be essentially the same as the 2010 Camaro, I ordered the starter for a 2010 Camaro.
It doesn't clear; it runs into the crank position sensor right above it.
You can't clock or rotate this one in any way, it's all cast.
Does anyone know what starter WILL clear the LS3's sensors and bolt into place? I could try a truck starter, but it's not a truck motor, so that's just a guess. Since I already have to eat this starter (too late to return) I'd rather get it right the next time!

I used a Summit Racing Mini Starter. Worked fine on my LS3 crate engine. I had problems fitting a starter between the frame and engine. This starter worked well and didn't hit anything.

They have another version, but it is not a mini starter for like $5 less. Not sure how that one fits, but this starter is a good deal for the price.
