Default Something causing a misfire, bad battery to blame?

Hey all, been awhile since I have posted, but I started my 02SS up and took it for a spin today, it has been in the garage for the Chicago winter and started it about every month.

Last month when I started it I noticed that the battery was dead so I jumped it let it run for 10 minutes and shut it off, today when I started it the battery was dead again, so I jumped it again let it run and took it for a drive, I noticed that the car was missing as I leaned into the throttle a little bit and it was a pretty consistent miss. Just out of curiosity when I got home I shut it off and immediately tried to restart it and the battery was cashed again, so clearly the battery is toast and I need a new battery.

My question is can a bad battery cause a misfire like this? When I put the car up for the winter it was running perfectly and really haven't touched it since, so I would assume it is just the battery.

Any help would be appreciated. I would like to start with the most simple like battery and eliminate from there.

Thanks,

Jeff

bump, just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem that was solved by replacing a bad battery that will not hold a charge

I have a 2001 chevy Silverado with the 4.8ls. I only live about 10 minutes from work so it doesn't get a chance to fully recharge the battery on a daily basis. After 3-6 weeks the truck will develop a misfire, delayed acceleration from a stop, low low idle (200-400) when coming to a stop, and electric fluctuation at idle. When I put the battery on a trickle charge or drive it for about an hour the misfire stops and the truck idles around 500-700.

So I am a believer that a low battery can cause misfires

That's great, but why resurrect a 2 post thread from 12 years ago to tell us? @G Atsma Are you getting soft on these newbies? You'd normally have admonished them within 5 minutes of them posting, lol.

probably because these are active issues people have with these vehicles and engines still to this day. Just because your are too lazy to help someone doesnt mean that someone isnt trying to diagnose a problem.

I was dealing with this a few weeks ago, took the voltmeter to a few spots and found the power from the alt to the battery was hanging on by a strand or two. Got that wire remade and life is good again! I thought a just had a old, bad battery at first

First of all, do NOT come in here and attempt to talk **** to me when you can't even spell. I've been a contributing member on this site for nearly 20 years, what have YOU done? The point is, if you have a problem with your vehicle, go ahead and search for the answer in the archive, but if you can't find it, POST A NEW THREAD. It's not that difficult of a concept. Pulling back old threads to present day just serves to muddy the waters for people actively searching for information.

Search on this site is hit or miss. Sometimes I find stuff by doing a google search that links to a thread here.
