Default Holley Valve Covers - causing oil consumption?

Hello,

I have a 2005 C6 Corvette with and LS2.

Here are the motor specs:

GMPP CNC LS3 heads
LS9 cam
LS7 lifters
Comp Cams 26918 valve springs
Comp Cams LS3 rocker arms Trunion upgrade
Edelbrock LS3 E-Force Supercharger
Holley Valve covers
Kooks Long tube headers
Edelbrock 3.25" pulley
1000CC / 95 lb/hr injectors

My car put down 580 RWHP - and was tuned by PCM of NC.

After I got the car tuned - I put some miles on it - and noticed no extra smoke when firing it up.

I swapped over to the Holley Valve covers - and my car has been throwing out black smoke ever since.

I have put probably 500 miles on the car since I last changed the oil - and had to add a quart of oil to get it back up to the hash marks. This car has never used that much oil in a short amount of time ever.

With the E-Force - it does away with the factory PCV hose routing from the Valley cover - as the Edelbrock valley cover is machine flat.

It has a hose go from the passenger side valve cover - to the cone filter setup, and it has a hose from the back of the driver side cover - that runs to the front of the blower after the throttlebody.

I do not have a catch can at this time - as I'm not 100% sure how to route it with the E-Force pcv setup.

Has anyone else seen this problem - or have a solution for it? I saw one thread on CorvetteForum that mentioned this - and they basically went back to the stock covers.

I love the look of the Holley's and would prefer not to remove them.

Pic of my setup:

Thanks.

I had them on my supercharged LS2 and they did the same thing so I removed them. I installed the OE covers and the problem is gone. They are no-good for forced induction so I sold them. If you like the direct coil mounting then get the OE LS9/CTSV valve covers (paint them black): https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ve-covers.html

Jon - that is exactly what I did.

I ripped them off and ordered a pair of LS9s.

I cleaned, primed and painted them like the Holleys.

I am adding a catch can to the system - and should be installing the can and covers this week.

Now for a pic:

We ran the Holley valvecovers on a buddies 440ci stroker motor and a vacuum pump. The pump without a baffle was literally sucking out quarts from the engine in a hundred miles or so! Went back to stock style and problem fixed.

I have a feeling that some Holley's were shipped without baffles and that is what is causing some to have this problem. They holley's I have, have baffles and I have no issue with oil consumption.

Long time no update - I went with the LS9 valve covers - installed them along with an Elite Catch can.

I ran the Drivers side vent port > Catch can Intake port > Catch Can Exit Port > PCV port under the blower snout after the TB.

I went on a 30 mile drive - and I filled up the catch can.

I had ordered that PCV valve that was in the Holley instructions. That finally came in and decided to put it in.

Drivers side vent port > Beck / Amley 0450299 PCV Valve > Catch can Intake port > Catch Can Exit Port > PCV port under the blower snout after the TB.

I went on that same 30 mile drive - and checked the can and there was barely anything in it.

So I think adding the Catch Can - and adding that inline PCV valve resolved my oiling issue. Also - there is no more smoke show on cold start ups.

Could have I kept the Holleys with the E-Force - and added the Catch can and the PCV valve? Perhaps - but I have not seen anyone successfully run those with this blower.

I took mine off - sent them back to Summit - and replaced them with the LS9's for not much more money.

I did have to buy an LSA oil filler neck for the oil cap to work. GM PN 12609623.

Here are a few pics before I cleaned up the PCV hoses...

I also ordered these 90* fittings from Edelbrock to clean up the PCV hoses some more - they snap right onto the LS9 covers.

I'm looking for these Edelbrock PCV fittings for the LS9 valve covers. Does anybody have the part number? I can't find them in their online catalogs.

I think Mighty Mouse catch can company cans sells the 90 degree fittings. They have all sizes up to I think 5/8 tube. The valve covers are typically 3/8 tube.

Thanks for the tip. I'll contact them. I measured the tube and it's actually 10mm which is slightly larger than 3/8"
