Hi ALL, the Holley Smart coil (IGN-1A) is good for about 18 HP on a 500 HP engine. (bench)
I DO NOT "HIP" SHOOT as did the above posters.
My DATA is PROVEN by dyno reports, EMPIRICAL, NOT GUESSES by THOSE WHO have NEVER done a BACK/BACK test.
There are users here at LS-1 Tech of my LS-IGN-1A kit.
THEIR reports are as follows :
Better throttle response
Less Spark Advance required
Better Fuel mileage
More power "felt" through engine operational range.
More power recorded when tested on a rolling road dyno.
So I ask : Would you TRUST a person who has fitted the Holley Smart coil/IGN-1A OR a person who has NOT ?

IGN-1A Spark Plug Gap
Hi Hammer, I share my tech for Spark Plug Gap with the users of the IGN-1A coil with a Gap of .065" N/A and NOS/Boost gap of .046" as common.
Their reports confirm this works well.
I have less data about the original coils fitted, though I do ask.
I also ask about the original Dwell Settings, with little data reported.

This was on a CTSV. Now, one could argue lots of different things, but iirc the LSA coils were the best of GM factory offerings. Given that, I'd wager the gains could be just as good on "regular" LS coils, if not better?

I think he has mentioned pricing on some threads before....
It would be nice if his website was more clear and with prices though...and a purchase online option.
Click click click...just makes buying so easy !

IGN-1A Coil Kit in Stock
Hi All, I keep the ING-1-LS coil kit in stock.
The kit is eight IGN-1A coils, the two brackets, the two sub harnesses.
I have always had problems when I post a price, the best way is to PM me your phone number, I will call.
You can send a RFQ by E-Mail with your address information, contact information.
My method is to ask questions, first, provide tech, make sure the product fits your requirements.
Lance, thanks for the interest.

Enough HP OR Spark Energy ???
Hi ALL, I find it ODD that some here at LS-1 Tech ALWAYS want more HP/Torque AND in the same sentence STATE "enough" spark energy.
Most coils, today's coil, are fitted with Rare Earth Internal Magnets.
This allows for better energy efficiency of a coil.
The invention of DIS uses twice/four/eight times the number of coils fitted.
WHO would EVER argue that eight coils would not be better than ONE coil ?

I got Lance's coils installed over the weekend. It took a while, because after I got them, I realized I needed new wires, and then there was some back and forth on my part. I finally ended up using rope and calling firecore and saying the rope is 8.5" long. Anyway, first start and it was a really big scare, because the car wouldn't run without pedal. But driver side headers all hot, pass side headers all cold, rechecked and I had never hooked up the pass side coil pack connector.
First impression -- definitely strengthened up the idle. I actually dropped idle RPM 100 from 925 to 850 to 825. Playing around on scanner, I got it to idle at 650 in the garage, but I don't know if I like that for DD, because map was up around 85 KPA. 750 would run decent I think. But I needeto be able to return to idle, etc, so I'm working it down slowly. 850 definitely does great though.
And I did see a difference in my WB. It read a bit richer. I"m guessing this is improved combustion. So, I'm going to have to log and see what I see. Was not able to take it out for a hard run yet. It'll be hard to tell I think how it compares up top. Driving around this morning, though, It felt like less cam surge for sure. I'm tempted to try de-tuning the adaptive spark a bit, which would take some of the lumpiness out. Possibly get this thing to run 15-20 mph in third gear just off idle. Wouldn't THAT be something?
Duplicate post from other thread, but relevant here I think
