Default catalyc converters and l77

For my project I want to use an LS2 engine and 6L80 trans. I can get my hands on a L77 engine/6L80 trans. Can I dump the catalyc converters on that L77 with the standard fuel injection? Roomwise I would like to loose them but the engine/trans combo would have enough potenial for my use, so I would want to keep the rest stock.

What kind of car is it going into? Also, what year? Because if your state does smog checks you might need to keep them.

I believe in the "systems" ability to screw me just cause,, so I won't run a street car without the smog stuff in place..

Guys like us many "know" that there are federal laws about removing and disabling smog equipment and for 99.9999 % of folks its probably a non issue,,
but years ago I was at an event with a friend and we were driving back home and got stopped in a "safety roadblock" they were fishing for DUI drivers.
Well ,, when we got up to the front of the line, the cop directing traffic had us pull aside,, long story short,, car impounded.. We had to go rent a truck and trailer, and
he had to put up a $10,000 bond to get the car back (1/2 of the potential fine). We then had to install all the smog stuff (Which luckily on this car was easy, it was
only missing the cat and the air pump.. ) Then had to take the car back and show them it was legal to get the bond back. Ended up costing about 500 bucks. Had to
buy a cat, and pay a shop to do a certified test on the car (Smog test)

Friend paid an attorney to look things over and they played 100% inside the rules. The federal law allows for a lot that is seldom enforced..
Just one of the many reasons I don't spend any vacation money in Cali..

My point being the more legal it looks, the less likely you get in trouble out of your home state.. (If you don't travel with the car then mod away! )

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I don't have to comply with any smog related rules because of the age of my car and I don't live in the U.S.

All the better! Then leave off the converters BUT retain the FRONT O2 sensors as they are needed to run the operating system correctly.

Hi Gary, are there only O2 sensors in front of the converters?? So none after them, 'cause I suppose you can't just discard (not connect) )2 sensors after the converters and think that the system will be okay with that solution.
Can I find the wiring diagram of a LS2 engine somewere? To have a sneak preview?

The forward sensors are to monitor oxygen level in the exhaust to keep the AF ratio right in the engine. The rear O2's are to monitor the efficiency of the converters. If not needed, they can be tuned out. ORIGINALLY on a factory car, there are 4 O2 sensors. You only need the front 2.

Gary, there is another thing I'm wondering about and that's the transmission software. The trans has full automatic and a manual mode.
Is it thrue that in manual mode, if you put the trans in 3th gear that it will drive off in 3th? Or will it drive away in 1st, then shift in 2nd and then in 3th and stay there for as long you don't touch the button on the shifter?
If that's not the case, is it possible to change the software to work like that?

I THINK it still goes thru the gears, just topping off in 3rd.

Default How original can I go?

If I would use a LS2 engine and 6L80 trans, the wiring loom, throttle pedal and gear selector out of one car and put it in a non computer '71 car, will it run and drive with the same hp and torque as the original car the engine/trans combo came from?
Or do I have to use a special aftermarket computer?
Specific info would be helpful.

Generally so, yes. Subject to the attention to detail and finesse with which it's installed. Might even make MORE power and torque. Probably not, but who knows.

do I have to use a special aftermarket computer?
No. You can if you want but there's no requirement. The computers that these engines come with are plenty flexible enough to do what you need.

Is there a manual / book that describes the procedure of getting it operating in the new/old car? What wires have to be connected and which not?
