01 Camaro ss alternator in a 02 5.3 silverado
Greetings,
My alternator in my 2002 Silverado 5.3, 1500 Z71 went out and I have a left over alternator from a 2001 camaro ss laying around. Would I have any issues swapping the alternator from the camaro into the silverado? They look identical. I wasn't sure about the amperage. I asked a local automotive shop and they couldn't give me a definite yes so I thought I'd see if anyone here has had tried this. Also, idk if this would be better in the truck or car section.
Thank you in advance!

Should work fine. Should be "enough" assuming you don't have gigawatts of stereo in it or something like that.
Stock, your alt was rated at something around 100 or 105A. The cheeeeep eeeeeezy instant upgrade for that truck is the 145A one for a later truck, such as 04, w/ RPO code KG3. Bolts right up and plugs right in. Might need a belt about ½" longer but sometimes the one you have will fit fine. It does in my truck.

I was the one that created the truck alternator thread lol.
I agree someone may want a 145 amp and is the way to go. The stock f body alt is 95 amp the little truck alt is 105 and the stock belt on the camaro and the truck both fit the 145. I've personally had both vehicles and done the swap to both.

Yeah man I went through a bunch of crap with alternators and had to come up with a fix. A lot of guys were having the same problem and I didn't know anyone else was so it ended up exploding into a 50 page thread.

You didn't realize there was a thread on it yet you're repeating the exact verbiage that is only in that thread. The KG3 rpo code came from my thread and KG3 is only used in junk yards yet you came up with this while standing at the counter in a parts store? Lmfao okay buddy.

Yup, while standing at the counter... d00d asks, does your truck have KG3, I answer iunno, he goes and gets both that one and the little one (which it turned out was the same as my core), it's pretty much a no-brainer at that point. Rockauto lists em the same way. You could get the RPOs off your SPID label.
