Default Starter problems. Please Help!

Ok so I’m on my 3rd Advanced Auto starter. The car use to run and start fine but now I’m have major issues that I’m sure will lead to a broken flywheel.
car is a 1996 ws6 M6. The battery is brand new (bought yesterday) and this starter will be the 3rd warranty (picked it up yesterday as well).
In the video the starter grinds then just free spins, but do t be fooled. The Bendix when free spinning is meshed with the flywheel. When I loosen the starter bolts and wiggle the starter the bendix retracts and I can tighten everything down and get the grinding noise again until it begins to free spin. The video shows what it sounds like and the photo is of the bendix stuck in the flywheel. I have tried shimming the starter with every shim they sell. Nothing changes at all. In this video I actually have 4 shins on the starter. Any suggestions before I destroy my flywheel?

Sound like you might need to shim the starter away from the block. GM used to have shims for this years ago. Check with a dealer.

I went through this same bullshit until I realized that aftermarket is the way to go.

Get yourself a powermaster 9509 and be done with it.

I’ll look into the power master starter. I’m just pissed having to spend so much money on starters. Advanced won’t warranty mine because it test good on the bench.

Unless their bench has a flywheel where the starter is engaging the teeth in the flywheel, their bench test means nothing.

I once saw a auto parts store clerk pull his hair out when someone asked for a headlight bulb for a pontiac "Goalie". Poor guy kept trying to look up a car that didn't exist until I overheard the conversation and asked the car owner:

"are you sure you don't have a Pontiac 6000 LE?"

lmao reminds me of the meme where the guy is asking for an air freshener and the clerk says “so what kind of car is this going in” 😂

Starter is fixed. Took it to Advanced Auto and even tho they wouldn’t warranty it I asked them to bring out a starter for my make and year. Low and behold, the starter they brought out was 100x different. I gave them a dirty look and they exchanged starters for me. New one works like a charm

So what were the other 3 starters for then? You gave them the year and make so what box were they bringing out before?

so the first was the factory starter and I think it just crapped out. Then I got the second which looks like

the second starter looked exactly the same and was doing the same thing, getting stuck on the flywheel. But this new starter looks like this. The head is much smaller and the opening is smaller as well. Also sitting them side to side the bolt holes on the new starter were slightly different than the 2 that wouldn’t work.
this.

And here is the real kicker...... all 3 starters have the same part number. Carquest 6470S

The starter in your first picture uses the 2 long bolts. The designed was changed from the 1 long bolt 1 short bolt which is what the starter in your 2nd image is. Many have reported that the one with the 2 long bolts works fine, but 2 different brands did not work for me. Tolerances on these cars aren't that great lol. So I went with the powermaster which also requires 2 long bolts and it worked just fine. The reason for the 2 long bolt is that the one with a long bolt and a short bolt can result in a broken mount:
