You see the price of the dorman ls2 intake lately?
I mean holy crap. Summit is selling that thing for $921. What a joke. I have one and I can assure you the quality of it is $900 worth. Rock auto has it for over $600. Ridiculous. Like they made it to be a a cheaper option to a fast now it’s priced like a fast and no where near the quality and lacking the power. What a joke. Lol.
Yea it’s ridiculous. The choice is evident, fast > dorman. Like I think it’s hilarious that they are trying to sell them for the same price as a fast. Like I said, I have one. Out the box, the halves don’t mate up well at all. The plastic is cheap, the internal gasket is hanging out everywhere, the map sensor hold down point is a cracking joke (literally cracks like it’s glass). I wonder if people are dumb enough to pay that price?

Well, to be honest, the price FAST asks for one of their manifolds is kind of ridiculous too. Is it really more costly to mold things out of plastic than it is to cast something out of aluminum and then machine it?
That said, even the Rock Auto price for a Dorman is ridiculous. You could pick up a good used LS2 intake for $100 if you look around and they are easy enough to port, FWTW.

I thought the whole point was to offer a lower priced option than the fast. Yea I agree the fast isn’t worth the price either but the dorman is even worse. Hopefully no one buys it at that price and then they realize how dumb they were being and lower it back to a reasonable price. This is just robbery.
I totally agree. An intake manifold all in is pushing $1000 to 1500 for 20-30hp anymore. I just bought a used wieand/lingenfelter. I’m hoping it gives me something. What made me want it was the longer intake runner length for a lower peak torque. Not much lower lol, 200 rpm. It gained about 20hp and 20lb ft on the test engine. This one is ported so maybe a tad more. But I’ll take it for $300.

I think what I'm trying to say is, that Evan for a guy looking for that last (bolt on) it doesn't make sense when you can get a cheap power adder (like a budget nitrous set up for 450 to 950 bucks) and shoot 150+ hp through that non optimal intake anyway... I got a cheap bbk ssi for dirt cheap and it does it's job... I'd imagine 15lb boost and it wouldn't care either. Just saying......

don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating the Dorman for $650. I may have been the last one to get one at $450 new earlier this year. I wouldn't pay $650, it really was a fabricated mess from the factory. But for $450 and a few hours with a dremel, a little sand paper and paint, it's a nice bump in power. With new fuel lines and rails, I'm in the Dorman for just under $600. Worth it, especially when I sold my old ls2 intake for $200 and the rails for $100. And I don't have to replace my blown motor every 5k miles because my motor wasn't built for a cheap 150hp kit and I fried the number 7 ringland.
I get what your saying. I'm just thinking in terms of hp vs hp and dollar vs dollar. I know there's plenty of max effort ls1s that a mamo fast and nw 102tb + big maf make sense as well. My point is paying 900 bucks for a ls2 intake is stupid... I can go get a good complete junkyard 5.3 for that.
Performance wise, the Dorman LS2 intake is way ahead of the stock one. They used old FAST tooling to do the lower end. This is why the Dorman unit was the deal before being priced thru the roof.
Same thing is happening with the TBSS intake right now but slower, Holdener is to blame, he said as much on one of his last videos lol. The TBSS and the Dorman LS2 make the same power with the factory Trailblazer just slightly better. I priced a new TBSS three months ago at $140 and last week $187 was the cheapest I could find. After rails, EVAP, throttle bracket, NW 92mm and a few other miscellaneous parts etc. I was in $834.25 deep... that's getting close to used FAST stuff lol
Given the original price of the Dorman it kind of proves the price charged for a FAST is ridiculous.
Dorman paid for a FRACTION of the R&D. In the end, FAST charges too much, now Dorman does as well. No amount of accounting on our part will make the FAST cheaper. And it's on Dorman to get their intake to sell now.
My whole point is with the fast for $900 at least the quality of it is top notch. The dorman is junk compared to a fast or a factory intake. Yea it make a few hp more but I had to make it work because it was missing a vacuum port, the map sensor mounting tab that you screw a screw into cracks easily, when you look inside the two halves are mates together and they don’t even match. The oring on the inside is even hanging out in places. Hopefully everyone boycotts them and they put the price back to a reasonable price. I HATE price gougers and that’s what they are being right now. NO CONSCIENCE.
Presumably just supply and demand ? Maybe there are issues with manufacture and keeping up with demand ?
Of course priced at $900...demand is bound to fall lol
BBK SSI is half the price for anyone wanting aluminium

Funniest part is that I can get a brand new OEM intake, from the dealership, for $140
That's for my 2014 truck. But still, point is they're both plastic intakes, and you'd sure think a dealership part would be twice as high.
