How to keep mice from eating ignition wires
This is what I have in my shed, and both garages....Peanut butter for bait... caught more than a few.

In the past I filled socks with classic old style moth *****. The stinky ones your grandma used. Put half a dozen in socks and tied under hood, put them under the rear seats, and in the hatch. Ended the mice eating the wires under hood. And this car was in a heated garage!
Maybe time to adopt a rescue kitten cat? LOL.
Couple of things. Make sure you have no food sources in the shop/garage. All little cracks in the foundations filled.
For catching the little bastards we use a couple different methods.
1. The plastic "toothed" mouse traps with peanut butter. If you kind of know where they are coming in make a "funnel' with 2x4's to funnel them to the trap.
2. Sticky traps as needed with peanut as an added temptation.
3. Or if you like the traditional mouse traps file the latch a bit so it is a hair trigger. So hair trigger that you will struggle to set it down and not set it off.
We don't use mouse poison because we have dogs that will eat about anything (they like deer poop) and mouse poison can hurt a dog if they eat a poisoned mouse.

Peppermint oil. Watch videos on mice repellents and you'll quickly see that the only thing that works 100% of the time is peppermint oil. Even if they have a food pile in a box and have been there before, add peppermint oil and they will NOT return.

When I bought my house I had the worst infestation from the prior owners. I use(d) an assortment of tools for mice, chipmunks, rats, and squirrels.
Starting from the outside:
Poison pellets in professional grade containers
Fix your house or garage.
Be sure all holes are filled with caulking or silicone. Fix any and all entry points for critters.
Inside:
Use Glue boards
Victor mouse traps
Victor rat traps
Put steel wool in exhaust tips
and
Turn on the radio
Stopped finding dead pests last year. Must of wiped out the whole neighborhood or they found a new home.
That water bucket method works good too. I just never liked the idea of stagnant water with dead remains. **** like that can get humans super sick.

A few thoughts:
Moth ***** give off Naptha fumes which is pretty toxic.
I use snap traps year round. Probably catch 2-3 mice per month in the shop. More this time of year.
Using poison pellets outside can/will kill predators that feed on the bastards.

Add anti-freeze not water...no smell and kind of "pickles" them. Just be sure to toss in trash or bury so no animals get them.
When I bought this place 4 years ago, I had to gut the whole interior of a nice brick 1970's house. Cat was always around, and never came close enough to pet. But she would leave 2 or 3 dead mice on the back porch every other day. Now the house is done, and cat still goes under my deck and around house. It's good to have a neighbor with an outside cat.

My mutt loves that ****.... Then promptly "deposits" it on the kitchen floor.
Traps... It's the second rat that gets the cheese.

Oh I had mice get in my car about 7-8 years ago (middle of summer no less!) chew up some of the interior, poop everywhere, then die somewhere in the dashboard. I didn't drive the car for a couple weeks for various reasons, went to drive it, opened the door and GAHHHH the stench.
It went away eventually. I know I've got some skeleton(s) in the dash someplace, just waiting to fall on my head when I go to work on my steering column or something.
