Default Ruined a set of LQ4 heads

It started out friday night me and my buddy were tearing down his LQ4 engine that he just bought from a junkyard, we are swapping it into his 1988 Datsun 280Z. I was removing the manifold bolts and i put my ratchet on the 2nd one barely applied any pressure and 'snap'. There was enough to to grab with a set of vice grips, which we did, and got it 3/4 of the way out and the rest of the bolt snaps off inside the whole, ****. Then other day while i was at work he was drilling the pilot hole to use an EZ out to try and remove the bolt and snaped the end of a small drill bit off inside the rest of the snapped bolt, fuckamothershitfuck.. Well last night i bring over some drill bits, taps,ez outs, and some bolts and we start the process switching back and forth with the drilling and he finally breaks through the bolt and we are in business. We go inside and look up what size drill bit that we need for the specific tap so we do it right. He begins to drill out the whole with the bit and drill and he pulls it out and calls me over and says look in that whole, i look and i see 2 holes, 1 on the right side of the whole and one on the left.We go ahead and tap the whole and find a bolt that fits it bolt up the header and call it a day.

He thinks he is going to put alot of teflon thread lock on there and it wont leak or have any problems. MY question is, will that work, and is there any other way to fix this? i was thinking maybe a helicoil or something along thoughs lines, maybe having hot aluminum pored in there and let it setup then re-drill and tap, i dont know, i just feel like an ******* and i feel like its my fault and i just want to do whatever i can to help him and get this fixed because i know how much it killed him to look inside that whole and it basically ruin his project that was moving along flawlessly. Please help!

You can find a welder that is good with aluminum and have it filled, drill it out and rethread the hole. I have done this on a intake before where the drill bit went through to the water jacket inside and have had no problems with it.

To fix stuff like that, its best to take it to a machine shop but now your running into extra cost which part of the reason for buying the used motor to begin with....

Decently sized helicoil, but I just want to make sure it will seal the water from seeping out.

Guy at work just showed me a set of 3/8-16 Timeserts that measure out to a number that will work, being that The original hole is already bigger than a stock bolt.

Looks like im going this route tonight when I get home from work. Anyone disagree with using this?

Wouldnt teflon tape melt in a head?

sounds like a plug weld and drill and tap is the best way to go- IMO

anyone with a welder can do that in a few min, tnen you can drill and tap yourself by hand without going to a machine shop

called around town and our local engine guy is on vacation until dec. 11th

Everyone else wants around 100 bucks to fill it, drill it and tap it. SAME PRICE without drilling and tapping it. Screw them.

Ill try the timesert tonight and If that doesnt work I am just going to buy new heads.

Are you talking about the intake or the exhaust manifold?
Devcon makes a few epoxy based (with metal added) products that may work for this repair. You could fill the hole, then drill and tap it after it sets up.
