Default Quieted down my exhaust today

I have been trying different things to quiet my car down for some time. Your options for exhaust are limited on these f-bodies and much more so when trying to do a true dual setup. I believe that there are only 2 true dual exhausts available thru the aftermarket and neither of them is a 3". So if you want true dual 3" you have to have it custom made and dumped before the axle as there isnt enough room (w/o fabrication) to bring 2 3" pipes over the axle. There really isnt much space for mufflers before the axle so you are stuck running bullet style mufflers which tend to be loud. I did some looking around and found that some people are going under the axle. I went and bought the quietest 3" bullets that I could find (Flowmaster Hushpower), a ball flange kit for quick, easy and reusable disconnect and took it to the muffler shop that did most of the setup so far. I had them weld the 2 bolt flange end directly to each of my Borla XR1's. Ball ends are on the pipes that go to the mufflers which are each attached to a single bracket held in by a single 13mm bolt. 6 bolts drop the tail pipes and allow me to run with just the Borla's. I'm very happy with how it turned out. I wish that I could have had them mounted a little higher and further back but it would have been too sharp a bend and there really isnt anymore space to go higher. Oh, and it's WAY quieter!!! Probably the most expensive catback ever built for an fbody though. I got almost $700 tied up just in mufflers and flanges.

What happens when you put the car on a lift to work on it? Is the exhaust removable somewhere before the axle.

It's actually 1" higher than the lowest point of the old mufflers which have not been moved. Clearance could be a problem if you are dealing with a lowered car on a 26" diameter tire. My car has stock height springs and is on a 28" tire so I have plenty of clearance. As for disconnect, it's covered in the words above the pictures and you can clearly see the flanges in the pictures.

When you are making 500 rwhp NA in a true daily driver, the noise and drone get old fast.

Looks good but I personally didnt want to go under and I still wanted the dual 3 in and if you bent the upper pan handle bar slightly it clears dual 3in pipes over the axle no bumps no clearance probs nothing and like you said when making as much power as we are NA then you need dual 3 in. I like my magnaflows but they are a little noisey but not any worse than some of the single 3 in catbacks. Mine is pretty quiet cruising. I also added a dr gas x-scream x-pipe made a bit of difference. gunna be taking it down this winter too add flanges to it and have it HPC coated. Florida huh... Man I want to move back there I use to live in port st lucie my dad still does been thinking bout going back that way love the sunshine!!!

Very nice setup. Are you an exhaust guy or did you have to blow one to do that for ya?

I spent $150ea for the mufflers and $45.00 for the ball flange kit. Then I paid $220 to have the 2 pipes bent and all the **** welded together. That's $565 for those that care just to go from the old mufflers (where you see the flanges) to the back. Then add in the dynatune cones that are in each header collector @ $70 for the pair, 2 Borla XR1's at $130 each, an h cross over pipe @ $20, and another $250 to have that stuff all put together and bent up and you have the most expensive f-body exhaust of all time at a grand total of $1165. That doesnt include headers.

I like it. Exhaust dumped in front of the axle definately gets old quick. I'll never do it again on a street car.

I'm going to a track rental this weekend so I will get some idle and WOT video with and w/o the tails and the additional mufflers. This will provide a back to back comparison of how restrictive the additional mufflers and tail pipes are. I hope to peel of a 9.0 on the big shot.

When I had my exhaust done, I asked the shop for the quietest performance muffler they had - I didn't want to attract a lot of police attention, & I kind of like to have people think that my car is a boring ol' stocker. Besides, my car is already red, I don't need to make it seem like I'm needing attention by having it loud too...

(And when I DO want it loud, I just hit the switch & open my DMH e-cutout - I've got the best of both worlds!)
