Default no cats and header install on Z06, now hellacious backfire

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
so i installed kooks longtube and no cats. not i am getting a hellacious back fire. and a flashing CEL light

should i not even plug in the rear 02 sensors at all since i have no cats??

only other possibility is that i have the front and rear connections for 02 sensors mixed up but i dont think that is possible since the 02 extensions had different ends then the old front 02's

thanks alot

After checking if you have your O2 sensors switched you're probably going to need a tune. I never got a nasty backfire after a header install, but your engine will be running richer than it should without a tune for the headers.

If you you have somewhere relatively locally that has a good reputation for tuning Corvettes, take your car there and let them dyno tune your car. That'll clear up how that engine is running after the header install, and that annoying CEL will be no more. Best of all, you'll pick up more power by having the car tuned for the headers.

im better you dont have a plug wire on all the way, or you cracked a spark plug. Its missing causing the backfire. I had the same problem in my TA and couldnt figure it out for the life of me, one day I decided to go buy new plugs and wires just to try and cure it, and whada yah know, it worked. I put money on a bad wire or a cracked plug.

well did find out the drivers side 02 wasnt clicked all the way now i have that sucured with the little blue clip so it cant come apart

also took all plugs out, i think one looks like it has a hairline crack in #7 the passenger rear plug. prolly hit it with the old header on the way out

going to get new plugs now then hopefully all is good!

will update in a little bit.

still is backfiring although not as bad or as loud

i bet you will find with new plugs, and make sure the wires are clipped down all the way, that your backfire goes away....

i usually always change plugs when i do my headers anyways but figured due to lower miles no need to. but yeah the one was a hairline crack, sounds very bad *** now once you get into it!

remove the plugs prior to removing the headers/manifolds incase this happens again
