Default Bolt ons to get the most power out of LS2s

I have a LS2 from a 06 gto that i am going to put into my third gen. I had dreams of a forged short block with a s/c and nos, but my realistic side has got hold of me. That is way more power than i need and although fun, money that i should instead use on something else.

I was wondering what the best heads are and i am planning on a custom cam and a good tune after that. Wouldn't mind making a really good top end to get some lift of the valves. I'd like to see 400+ rwhp out of it. I am looking for good reliability and to keep it drivable. I have headers for it as well. It's my first 'not stock' build so i need so help in the right direction.

For heads many people recommend AFR and ETP. When I get around to doing heads on my blown LS2 it'll be either one of those, but haven't decided which set specifically yet. ETP's yield a little more power but don't exactly just swap right it without a few other modifications from what I've gathered.

A custom cam is definitely not a bad idea. Contact Ed Curtis from Flowtech and he can take care of you on an awesome custom cam that will have great street manners, as well as set you up with cylinder heads.

With just a cam alone you'll easily get 400+ rwhp. These LS2's put down around 340 hp at the wheels in the M6 GTO's. Add a cam, headers, and a high flow intake and a 6-speed GTO will see 415-435 at the wheels. That could be nearly 450 rwhp in your F-body. Add a set of heads and you've just blown that 400+ goal away and you'll be approaching 500 rwhp I'm sure. So it won't take much!

I'd go AFR heads, nice quality cam, quality long tube headers, such as KOOKS and some high flow cats.
That'll get you some serious ponies to the rear wheels.

Talk to Tony Mamo at AFR. He can set you up with the right combo for your goals.

With a stock LS2 longblock with cam, headers, ported fast, built auto I'm doing 440rwhp in my 98' Z28. The potential for big power is there for the taking. Good luck man.

400 RWHP will be pretty easy with just a cam swap and some LTs.

For the price you can't go wrong with WCCH ported 243's. Combined with a custom cam and good exhaust, you should easily make 440+RWHP. I also suggest spending the money for a FAST intake to go with the top end. Without, you'll be giving up about 25 RWHP. Also, the tune makes the difference between just making a dyno number and actually being able to drive it on the street, so money spent there will be appreciated on a daily basis.

You might want to look at some Trickflow 225s.

Here's what AFR (Tony Mamo) recommended to me. More for the street, you could opt for the 215 heads for the same money. Should get 450 or more at the rear wheels with a T-56.

LSx Mongoose Aluminum Cylinder Heads 205cc Intake Ports, 66cc #033-1510

LS1 Hydraulic Roller Cam, Comp Cams, AFR Custom Grind #6019
.580x.590, 114 degree
(@.050in)…230 deg in/232 deg exh

LSx Cometic Head Gasket, 4.160" X 0.040", LS2 6.0L #COMC5318-040
for 11:1 compression

FAST intake
42 lbs injectors
Ported stock 90 mm TB
E3 plugs
