Pull the crank sensor out and confirm that the correct reluctor wheel is installed. There are pictures on the internet showing the visual differences between a 24 and 58 tooth reluctor wheel.

I've seen this happen with a GMPP crate engine as well. The wrong reluctor was installed.

Thanks, but I know it's a 24x. I ordered the rotating assembly from eagle and build the motor myself.

I just took a look at my cam extension wiring (LS3 into a '98 LS1 Trans Am). According to this diagram, the harness needs to swap wires 1 & 3 to adapt to the LS3 cam sensor (short extension bracket on the timing cover deleted). Is this correct? I swapped mine as it was just a straight extension, is that right?

when i did my swap i eliminated the factory 6.2 front cover wiring and just ran the ls1->ls3 extension harness right to the 6.2 cam sensor. and yes i had to switch the 2 wires in the extension harness. however, before i did actually switch the wires, my car would still start...it would crank for about 5 seconds with nothing, then the next attempt to start it would start. it would start every other attempt until i switched it. i never had any popping noise though during the no-starts

Default Ls3 98

I did the swap into my 98 z28 skipping the extension pigtail, it fired right up, but I'm noticing sometimes it won't fire right away it take 2 sometimes 3 tries but it runs great idk what the problem could be. I assume it's the cam sensor

Switch outer 2 wires as in above post. Sounds like a classic case.

No time to re-read this now but mine usually requires two cranks at cold start. If I spin it for a few seconds it will start but if I crank it quick, stop, then it fires. Its a complete GEN IV harness though, theres no 24x anything involved so a wire swap isnt my issue. Its another one of the small compromises I live with.

When its warm it fires on first crank.

So I can buy LS3 knock sensor and they will fit into the LSA block without having to tap the block for the older LS1 sensors, but what extension harness do I need ?

this will fit right into a 98 since i have one on mine and other than the sensor relocation everything fell right in and fired right up.

i did it on my 98 idk why everyone says it different. my ls3 intake and fuel rails hooked up to my stock fuel lines, got adapters for injectors
and fired right up even before tune.

Hi all,

I have a 98 Trans Am LS1 T56 and am thinking of doing the L92 swap. A guy locally is selling an L92 complete with a PSI standalone harness and 411 computer. The motor was previously tuned by a reputable tuner. I think around 415 rwhp. Would I be able to use that harness and computer or so I need to use the harness and computer from the Trans Am? The motor already has the 24x reluctor wheel, and other stuff needed for this swap. Just trying to see if I can get away with using this standalone harness and save myself getting another tune.
