You can also have a 440 with a 4.125" bore and a 4.125" stroke.

Wrong... Been there, done that. ET 4.0 LS7 heads with a stock LS7 intake will make more power than a TFS 235 with a FAST intake... And since the LS7 intake is cheaper than a FAST intake... The overall package is cheaper.

Actually, you're correct. I missed the fact that this was on a LS7 block. That's what people tend to build with an LSx block. I'd still use the TFS heads.

When they tried the Stage 3 cam from Katech (made for the LS7), the TFS heads still made the same power and of course more torque.

If you want a street driven 440, the TFS 235s work very well.
you almost convinced me to go with the TFS 235cc heads but there is a limitation that is the Fast 92mm intake manifold will flow less than the LS7 intake manifold, how to overcome that?

Dyno results? And when you say more power, is that peak power only, or average power?

I know your previous dyno results showed the ET LS7 heads with a Wilson Billet Bank intake to make 600 HP on a 402 at the crank, we've made that with the TFS 225's and a unported Fast, and the TFS 235's will make more power then that. https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...416&highlight=

No expert here but I thought ET heads were the way to go for cubes that big.I guess I need to keep an eye on this post for any dyno numbers

It's a common misconception that the fast intake runs out of power at XX hp. The fast has been 630+ rwhp NA on cars here.

All in all, a ls7 car correctly built and a cathedral TFS head car correctly built will make close to the same peak power, but from what i've seen, the TFS stuff makes more torque.

IMO TFS are the way to go.

for a street 440ci LS7 what do you advise to go with TFS 245cc heads or TFS 235cc heads?

i read in TEA website :

http://www.totalengineairflow.com/pr...gmhead/tfsls1/

that the TFS 235cc heads are for 4.125" bore.

and

the TFS 245cc heads are for 4.155" bore.

and the 441ci LS7 short block is actualy 4.125" bore and 4.125" stroke so i thought the TFS 235cc heads would be the choice.

We have built both of these combos and the TFS headed 440 make ALOT of USABLE power under the curve and STILL peak over 600rwhp with all supporting bolt ons.. At about 620rwhp the FAST 92 seems to become a restriction with MAP readings dropping to 94KPA around 4500rpm....

LS7 heads are a good choice for a RACE motor that isnt driven on the street, but for USABLE power without spinning to the moon the TrickFlows are the ticket HANDS DOWN...

The 440ci engine you did with the TF's, what if you just changed to a sheet metal intake..what increase in peak power would you expect? I know you may lose some low end torque of course.

It's not that cut and dry. I have my own grinds and it was an Apples to Apples comparison. (Same engine, just swapping the heads)= X I sent you a PM with more details.

You don't think the LS7 heads made more power because of the better LS7 intake????

though the LS7 heads did seem to have more of it as the revs got higher
So if someone was building a big N/A engine, say a 451ci (4.1 stroke x 4.185 bore), with a 250-300 shot for roll races...they should go with the LS7 headed engine? Since higher rpms' is what you want for a roll racer.

so Ron you recommend going with the TFS 235cc sized heads for a 440ci LS7 short block for the street?

Hmmmm. Your the first person that mentioned a sheet metal intake for a street car, I'm all for it too. Too many people keep bringing up the loss of low end torque. Who cares if you lose some torque, think about all that you would have.

Anyway, I think the perfect roll racer would be a 451ci, sheet metal with a 101mm TB, ported LS7 heads and 11.5:1 cr. and a 2-stage 300 DP shot.

All Pro's would be nice, but way too much money. Don't the ported LS7's flow just about the same, int and exh ports?

stop thinking and start doing. im going back to a FAST from my sheet metal, not all its cracked up to be. heat soak and other things make a sheet metal not desirable for a street car. I used to think the same way til I did it.

and i've known others who have done it too.
