what type of file is the unzipped file? When I unzipped it it just said "type 6" under file type? And produced jibberish when I tryied to open it with word, notepad, and excel.

It is a Microsoft Excel file. If you don't have Excel, you can download Openoffice from Openoffice.org and read the file.
