It did look like it was installed...but I did not remove anything.

Is it a removable item without breaking it ? I dont have spares...and would have to source them from the US.

Surely if the internal part fails.....all would happen is the oil filter would be bypassed ?

If the rear part fails.....I'd have a problem like mine.

It is o'ringed and held in by the rear cover. I had to pull my barbell out of my nasty 120,000 mile LS1 to put in my LS6. It came out fine. Might be worth having a peek at. I'm just throwing out ideas.... I'm sure you are missing a restriction to build pressure is all.

Should you double check on the barbell in the back of the block? Pull it out and make sure everything is OK there.
That is exactly what I was thinking. Yes it just pulls right out however my engine stand got in the way temporarily

Also maybe check the cam retainer/crossover gallery plates, seals, and mating block surface... just throwing things out there too

Little plastic dumbell is almost always the culprit.
That's one of the FIRST things I put in.

BTW, if you pull out the furthest rear oil galley plug, you can look into the oil galley and see the dumbell.

The only time I've had a customer put his o-ring in the pump first and then slide the pick-up tube in, the tube cut the o-ring. I always recommend putting the o-ring on the tube lubricated well, and then slide into the pump.

Good luck with it!

what???

are you talking about the afm/dod holes in the valley,, if you have the correct valley cover and gasket those holes will be blocked off by o-rings in the valley cover

I bought an aftermarket billet aluminium LS2 valley cover intended for an LS2 block, complete with gasket from a sponsor.

As this was the first LS2 block I had ever used, I had no old cover, or never seen one.

So I have to rely on others to supply the correct parts. You'd be bloody amazed at how difficult that is.

Had an issue when doing case half reseal on a northstar, which uses the same type oil pump. Make sure the crank pully is aligned in the proper location with the other pullies. If its out to far it wont put enough pressure on the oil pump drive. I always tighten the pully, back it off the bolt and wack it on one more time nice and hard with the 1/2 impact.

This is the totally flat, billet Alu cover that was supplied to me. The gasket only covers the outer border of this cover, and goes nowhere near the DOD towers. Due to teh thickness of the facotry gasket that was supplied, the cover would sit some 1/8" above the DOD towers.
Oil had simply been gushing out the tower drillings.

I have now tapped/plugged these. Oil pressure on cranking was achieved within 30secs of cranking

The engine itself, I am very happy with....it's the person who supplied the cover I am annoyed at.

Again....why would anyone supply the wrong gasket ?? Why are there different LS2 gaskets, if they all have these DOD bits ???

That's a good question. I believe the factory cover has o-rings in the cover that aren't part of the gasket. IIRC
I'll look at one when I get to the shop. Sounds like the cover design needs to be refined.

LS1 gasket is a different shape though, as the top of the velley is a different shape. So that isnt a possibility ???

I had been using an LS6 block previous...so I knew it was the wrong shape and needed to source a new one
