I'll look at one when I get to the shop. Sounds like the cover design needs to be refined.
Cover is simply a flat piece of Aluminiuim, with the engraving, and recesses machined for the bolt heads.
Underside is totally flat.

I'd assume this isnt the first one that's been sold.

I had been using an LS6 block previous...so I knew it was the wrong shape and needed to source a new one
Yeah, thought about it for a few and changed my post. It's an LS2 gasket, but the cover didn't have the o-rings in it like the factory cover.

Almost makes ya wonder why some people bother making these aftermarket parts.....when they arent doing the job they are supposed to.

At least if I had been informed before hand, it could have saved me a LOT of hassle.

you are correct, the factory cover has groove's cut in it for o-rings that go over the dod holes and seal them

I wonder why the DOD towers are even cast into the LS2 block what vehicles employ DOD with the LS2 block? FWIW yes the factory LS2 cover does indeed have O-Rings in the bottom of the cover.

I am glad I found this post. I am putting together a TSP 418 and was wondering if I would need to plug the DOD Towers. Now I know for sure that I will.

If you buy a billet aftermarket cover from a sponsor like I did......you will need to ensure the holes are sealed up....

Wish they had told me that whan I bought it.

I wish I would have seen this thread earlier. I could have solved the problem for you right then. I build an LS2 402 for a Magnacharged car probably about 3 years ago. We got one of the prototype Magna valley covers...

yep, you guessed it, only about 10psi oil pressure at idle and max of 40. There were no o-rings included with the cover...

Needless to say, its never happened again.

I get about a call every few months where the lack of these o-rings caused lower oil pressure. The only Gen IV blocks that do not require plugging or o-ring seals are the LS7 and LSX, those two don't need the o-rings and maybe the LS9.

Quick Reply: LS2 new build, no oil pressure ?
