Default LS7 Intake Porting and TB Porting - is it worth it

Hello -

I have a few C6 Z06's (All stock except for a Corsa Exhaust), and on one of them, I am looking to have the LS7 Intake and TB ported. My first question is if the LS7 Intake is a good intake to do this to, or is there a better aftermarket intake (Like FAST). Also, same question for the LS7 TB (Or is there a better verision like a Nick WIlliams?)

I am coupling this with buying the Vararam system for the LS7.

How much benefit will I receive out of porting in terms of HP? I was thinking 20 - 25, but that may be high.

I am trying to keep everything else stock to retain warranty, as I have been told that the LS7 headers are not bad at all and that doing a ported LS7 intake, ported LS7 TB and Vararam will not require a tune either.

I am having a very reputable engine specialist do the porting, one which all of you know. I just want to be sure I am doing the right stuff and that the stock ported stuff is better than any aftermarket intake and tb.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

JG853

I just had my LS7 manifold and TB ported by Tony Mamo. The car is getting a suspension revamp so I can't tell you first hand- yet.

I will get another tune since I've changed pumps, regulator, tranny and suspension, but what he told me was MAYBE a 12-15 whp increase, BUT, a better throttle response for that "seat-n-pants" feel.

The manifold was ground down to take some edges off and widen the port channels however the smooth surface was compromised to do this. The TB had material removed before and after the butterfly.

It wasn't cheap, but I wanted to maximize what I got. BTW a search on manifold porting yields alot of info.

11 additional rwhp at peak. Gains started at about 3800 rpm.

Thanks guys.

I was told that there may be a FAST Intake for the LS7 engine. I looked on their website, and the 100 and 102 is for a LS3 - Is that correct?

Called FAST the LS7 manifold is projected for "mid-summer".

^^^^^^^^^^ Agree. That's why I dropped the coin for the port job.

30+hp gain... wow that's healthy. Wonder when we'll see some dyno graphs on that?

I also did the ported deal. Doesn't flow enough for my TSP ported and decked heads with a 242/254 .657/.648" cam. We REALLY need this intake.

Just got some independent feedback back from a shop in Puerto Rico that I have helped with a couple of ported FAST intakes and most recently a ported LS7 intake (results very applicable to this thread obviously).

Im trying to get the actual dyno graph for you (and myself for that matter) but here is a copy of an email I just received. He got the intake on Friday and did the swap and the dyno test today....no other changes besides swapping on a new stock LS7 intake that I ported.

Here it is....

-Tony

PS.....Note more would have been seen with the addition of a ported LS2 TB as well. These are just gains from the intake porting.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

13rwhp.... 12.8 AFR 26 total advance... Car has headers LG...

First pass w/o intake.. 483. It had done 486 before... ok...
After intake... 496...

After my re-tuning... 505rwhp

I am going to start buying these off of you. What I would like is: if you
get a contact to buy a set of these intakes, please refer them to me... I
have one intake already sure for another Z06. I will install cam and all on
it..

Take care...

Ok good job Tony
I'll have my Mamo ported TB and LS7 manifold on this month and will dyno it at the end of this month/first Apr. I'll post results.
It is a wet sump LME modded LS7, last dyno 502rwhp.
