Default Oil pump drive gear?

Purchased a 2x roller timing set and need to remove the oil pump drive gear. What tool do I use to remove it? I have tried all of my pullers and none of them work to grab that sucker. How do I properly re-install it? I'm sure there's some kind of special tool to use or a tool i'm just not thinking of.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank You
Mike

It's just a very light press fit, and there is the key. If you can tap a screwdriver in behind it and pry it forward 1/8", then it will go easier.

I had a prybar on that sucker and I can't get it to move. I'm a little nervous about tapping a screwdriver behind it. Maybe i'll have to go give it a tap.... How does everyone remove these things?

Help please?!?

I do the screw driver and tap it on both sides, till it frees up. I use a huge socket to tap it back on.

Default 6.0

Does this screwdriver method work with the 6.0 truck engine? The oil pump drive gear and crank timing gear are all one piece on the 6.0 is this the same as the ls1,2,3,6 etc???

I'm installing the rollmaster 2x timing setup and noticed that the oil pump drive gear and crank gear are seperate pieces maybe thats just because it has adjustable timing?

Default 2 Jaw Puller

So I went out to the auto parts store and bought a 2 jaw puller knowing it wouldn't fit behind the sprocket.

I then cut down the fingers on the puller so it would just fit behind the sprocket.

This sucker is on there so tight that it broke one of the fingers off instead of pulling off the drive gear/sprocket!

Someone has got to be able to help me.

PLEASE HELP!!! I BEG OF YOU!!!

Thanks
Mike

I say whack it with the BFH (Big ****** Hammer)!! I've only disassembled and reassembled one of these things and my oil pump gear drive just slide off of the crank snout. Prehaps try renting a decent three jaw puller to get the bottom timing gear off. If memory serves me correct the oil pump gear drive and lower timing gear are two seperate pieces, same as all the other LS based engines. Did you try and tap a screwdriver between the timing gear and pump gear? Your not going to hurt that part of the crank, its not like a bearing surface.

I have a 1 piece Rollermaster crank timing gear/oil drive. Like I said above, I did just use a medium sized screwdriver and wacked it with a hammer a few times. Moving the screwdriver from one side to the other. I was using a 12lb mini sledge. After a couple wacks. it came right off. I've done it that was a couple of times. I can't think of any other way to get it off. I have pullers as well. But like you seen. None of them work.

I guess the motors in the car? If not you can prob get a long steel drift (I have an old crowbar I cut the hook end off of) and could knock it off but prob not with the oil pan on or if its in the car so forget that.

I would try heating it up and shoving something in between the back of the timing gear to try and budge it forward....alternating spots by turning the crank so it doesnt bind up.

Default drive gear

The engine is actually out and in my shed. I don't really understand how i'm supposed to hit the drive gear. The main bearing caps and engine block are kinda in the way of hitting the drive gear to slide it off. I've got to try a couple more things tomorrow.

Thanks all!

There is a special tool for this (from the auction site), it is less that $15. Why not just buy the tool as using other methods could result in unwanted damage.

Default I knew it

I knew there was a special tool of some sort out there for this job. When you say the auction site what are you referencing? The search has begun. Thank you so much! That is truly what I was looking for.

Thanks again!

Here you go: Link

You will need a large steering wheel type puller (see my photo) to use the tool, but you should be able to rent that from Autozone.
