Default do LS2 & LS3 motors ping like the LS1

whenever I stand on the gas the LS1 motor pings at high RPM just before the auto. trans. shifts.

I've searched for the solution and it still pings.

?do LS2 & LS3 motors ping like the LS1?

Thanks

Your injectors may be clogged. Toss in a bottle of Chevron Techron the next fillup. You also may need a tune. Ping is extremely hard on your engine. That ping that you hear is the fuel detonating before the piston is at TDC, It's like smacking the piston with a big hammer when it's on its way up. Very bad mojo

You need to get someone to look at your tune. Your motor doesn't ping just because it's an LS1.

when you say ping do you mean like knock sensor. or like rev limiter?

Ping is from too much timing, or too much compression, or crappy gas. I had a 12:1 LS6 motor, I had to run 50% race fuel and only 25 deg timing to keep it from knocking. Now I have a 10.5:1 L92, no knock on pump gas with 28 degrees. It's all about the compression, or the tune.

Default ping solution

I've owned the car since 01, only had 30K miles and completely stock.

bought it site unsean (did see images car looked brand new) and had it shipped so I never test drove it. first time I drove it it pinged (at WOT) the folks at the dealership told me nothing was wronge and all LS1 cars ping I thought that was a load of crape.

I've researched the solutions to the ping.
1.NGK V-power spark plugs create to much spark so I switched back to the AC delco iridiums still pings.

2.cardon buildup on top end, tryed the sea foam still pings but less.

3.KN oil drops on the Mas air sensor cleaned w/ Q-tip.

4.dirty fuel injectors I regularly use Lucas maybe this stuff is to mild still pings however MPG has not dropped.

I'm convinced that the agressive timing at WOT even from factory is the cause of the ping.

going by memory timing in gear at idel is 17 degrees, part throttel 20 degrees and WOT is 22 or 23 degrees.

? when I get a retune what should the in gear WOT timing be set at?

Sorry to be so though wanted to provide as much infor. as I could.

Thanks guy's for surport

If your timing is stock, the A/F or somethng else is off.

Stock timing on '01/'02's is low.

My Wife's '01 stalled A4 with bolt-ons runs considerably higher WOT timing with no detonation.

You are running 93 oct. gas correct? if so, I would first, check for vacume leaks, check the pcv system closely to see if youre getting any leaks from that area, becuase that can promote a vacume leak itself.. a leak behind the maf will cause a lean issue wich therefore will create much higher cylinder temps and detonation at wot and high rpms.. if that checks out, I would step down to a colder plug (ngk tr6).. If that dosnt fix the problem, then youre best bet is to go have it tuned.. There are soo many varibles that can cause a car to run hot for one person but not the next.. for ex: someone could of tuned that thing for max hp at a safe timing/a/f ratio in a defferent altitude or weather, and now the tune is too radical for your elevation/climate..
Perfect a/f ratio for a bolt on car IMO is around 12-12.5:1 with timing around 26-28 deg. at WOT with 93 oct. gas. But every car is different and elavation/humidity/climate has a major role in the whole ordeal..

Yep. Upgrade to 93 octane, then set timing as necessary.

To answer your question, no, my LS2 doesn't ping in 100* heat with the A/C on at WOT and I'm running more timing then you are. But, then again, neither should your LS1. You are either running out of fuel on the top end (fuel pressure problem - weak pump, clogged injectors, etc...) or your tune sucks. You are running premium fuel right?

yes I allways use good 93 octane fuel usalley Amamco.

I have completely redone the vacunm lines from rear of both cylinder heads y-ed off then into the PCV seriously dought it leaking near PCV ? will removing the heat stinkwire on PCV mess up the PCV?

when first got car in 01 had 30K miles and it pinged I changed the spark plugs to the NGKtr55 and it still pinged car was completely stock.

went back to the AC delco iridiums still pings.

?. if fuel preasure is dropping off at high RPM is that because of GMs inaddaquite wireing to the fuel pump not suppling the pump enought voltage?

this pinging has been happening since 01 and 75K miles if my fuel pump was going south seams like it would have a long time ago.

Thanks
