I will post pics of the two Billet cranks I have right now in this shop tomorrow when I get a digital camera here.
PS. The newer SCAT cranks have a totally normal thrust surface again so no one needs to worry about them except you just need to use the correct 7/16-20 flywheel/flexplate bolts until SCATs next batch which should be change to the metric OEM threads again.

i have been wrenching for long time. started out old school. and the term BOLT ON installation to this day makes me laugh. yeah a simple note would be a simple fix and no one would argue. there has been many times where i have been delayed over 3 dollar parts. just be happy you caught it now instead of cross threading some bolts and wiping more parts out.
just be happy you don't wrench on cars for a living and deal with it everyday. this is the norm for a lot of us and learn from experience.

i def need to see a pic of the problem crank(area)-mine is a steel stroker for my 6.0, not sure if it is one that i need to be worried about, bought it around the end of last year from a vendor, i think its their standard stroker, not a mega buck one-thanks

Only the older Billet cranks were made different on the thrust surfaces so I wouldn't worry about the newer non billet cranks as far as thrust is concerned.

I just talked to Tom and he was very nice and apologized for coming down on me in particular since he wasn't totally aware of who I even was. He did verify that these were old billet center counter weighted cranks sold here in Houston that have the smaller thrusts and he even knew the shop that I know one of them came out of and had the serial numbers.
All of the current SCAT LSx cranks have the correct thrusts and I can verify that as well. The only difference is that for now they have the normal Chevy flywheel flexplate bolts.
Anyway I think he will make a post of his own later and he said SCAT will certainly listen to any issues that can be improved on the cranks as they plan on being in the LS1 market and have a lot of nice stuff. It's nice to see that the owner of a company this size can take the time to talk to someone as long as he did and I certainly appreciated it.

I wish to thank everyone for their comments, both positive and negative.
I started SCAT back in the early ‘60’s. Over the years, we have done some great things and some not so great, but one thing we have always done is listened to our customers. Customer service should always be number one and for SCAT will continue to be number one. The bolts and keys to us seem to be not a big deal. Obviously, this is not the case. I have listened.
o 1st, we will package ARP 7/16 x 20 flywheel bolts and keys in all of the cranks in our current inventory.
o 2nd, we have a limited number of 4.000, 4.125 and 4.250 stroke cranks in stock. When the inventory is depleted we will change to the 11mm bolts.
o 3rd, to help this process along we will offer these 1st line cranks to your ls1tech.com subscribers with the ARP bolts, keys, Mallory installed to rough balance and a 58 tooth or 24 tooth reluctor wheel for $745 each.
o 4th, along with the cranks we will offer the corresponding connecting rods. We have 3 different types of rods that will fit the LS application:
1. 2-ICR-6125-7/16 Pro-comp I-Beam. This is the same rod we furnish to GM for the LSX crate motor program. We will sell these to your ls1tech.com subscribers for $240 per set.
2. 2-350-6125-2100 Standard Weight H-Beam @ $345 per set.
3. 2-350-6125-2100QLS Q-Lite (575 grams total weight) @ $399 per set.
o 5th, as mentioned by Erik Koening, we had a very constructive and positive conversation. Out of that conversation, as he mentioned, SCAT has records as part of our Q.C. program necessary to produce parts for the Big Three. I have indentified by serial number the 8-Billet cranks produced between 1999 and 2002 that have a short thrust wall meant for the automatic installation only.
If anyone has one of these cranks that is either still usable or has not failed for a reason other than thrust issues, I will exchange it at no charge for a new forged crank.
