Default 408 build

I have been reading on these threads for a while and was wondering what the real price would be for this built. Im talking every bolt, gasket, oil pan, etc, pretty much everything that comes with it and needed for it. Will probably ask the help of a friend so that labor wont kill me - just pay him something on the side. Will probably see about selling the old engine. Right now has only 42,000 on it.

Goal - around 500rwhp and 470rwtq. Car would be more of a weekend car. Something that would be good to drive at the same time or would that be asking too much?

Any information would be helpful.

Anything that I could use from my car with that motor. Wasnt too sure if you could use anything from the LS1 to that new motor. Guess that is why I ask the pros!!!

I'm in the process of building my N/A 408. I've been doing this with a budget in mind. I've got most of it together, With the right parts and machine work I would say you can easily make a 500 horse 408 for under $5,000

basically about all you can use from your car is the hardware, such as the covers and cover bolts, everything internal you would want to buy new. If you are really on a budget you could re-use your cylinder heads and buy an assembled short-block, i'm not sure what youre after.

Thanks for the info MrgoodwrenchSS. Was looking at an assembled block and new heads and cam. Does the LS6 intake fit on this 408? Think that it does from what I have read.
