I too had heard nothing but good things and was really looking forward to throwing their block in my car. I was gonna go warhawk but many people, including Sponsors, left me PM's saying to go with ERL. Shoulda just went with the warhawk from the get-go and have avoided this mess.

I had an LS-2 that was being opened up/sleeved to a 4.125 bore, 4 inch stroke (callies dragonslayer), and compstar 6.125 rods. It was going to be a 427 and have a ton of boost thrown its way.

Jeremy

Hmmmm... That's interesting. I've been using ERL blocks for a bout 4 years and I've never had an issue. As a matter of fact, I warrantee my engines for a year if I use a ERL block in the build. Now I have no idea what's going on with that block, but I'd be shocked beyond belief if they installed the sleeves wrong... I know **** happens, but ERL did not put the rotating assembly in that engine, if I read this post correctly...

If I had to guess, I'd say that you have the wrong pistons or some other issue. There is about a zillion 4" stroke/6.125 rod LS engines running around with stock length sleeves without any issues... Now you have a sleeved block and you say the pistons are falling outta the bottom????... Something is not right here.

It looks like someone really screwed-up that block. I hope they're replacing it.

Im the builder for this engine and the pistons are not wrong. The block clearance was done by scoggins for a 4.250 stroke before ERL put sleeves in it. But that wasn't a problem, After the sleeves were installed the went back and reground the sleeves and more clearance was added. They were told before the build started that if the block needed any clearance work I would do it. A bigger issue is the chamfer thats rolls .500 up the cylinder wall and the oil ring falls into. All shops are going to have mistakes it's how they tame care of them that takes them from good to great. Erl ahs refunded the money for the block but it only too 4 weeks and 15 hrs. on the phone to get this.

Same here, I was just generally speaking cause IMO far too many of these threads have been popping up lately about various sponsors.

Not for nothing but I have seen many examples of clearencing a block but thats pure butchery and it sucks to be them to eat a block but thats business. If it comes down to a wrong part issue, that should be always verified before assembly begins and especially if the block needs to be touched.

IMO its a shitty situation and no one wants to eat money.

GL on the situation.

Let me first say, we know there is no way to please every customer. Our experience is even though we bend over backwards for some customers, they still are not pleased with our customer service. There isn't a company out there that is perfect and we aren't perfect either. However, we do go to great lengths for our customers and I personally take allot of pride in taking care of my customers.
We don't agree with everything that has been said which is why we ended up refunding Jeremy's money back and taking the block back and sending him a core block back. We felt like we did what we could to make this situation right. I think if we had done nothing, that would have been another story. Almost all my conversations were between Jeremy's engine builder and myself. This block came in already clearanced to ERL once we were finished sleeving the block we noticed just how clearanced the block really was. Our sleeves are longer than stock and even with our clearance for the rod bolt was machined into the bottom of the sleeve it left a lot so we wanted to help blend the sleeve into what they had already clearanced in the block. All we were trying to do is help the customer out. I sent pictures to the engine builder of before and after one of the cylinders and the only issue he had was how much it was going to cost for this. He had no issues with the clearancing that was done and was fine when we knocked everything down to 1 hours worth of work instead of 12. At that point there was never any mention of "why did you clearance this? We told you all that I would clearance anything that needed to be clearanced" because we were never told that.
I hate that this has come to this and we couldn't agree so we felt like we did the right thing by refunding him for everything, taking the block back and sending a core back to him. We have always taken great pride in our work and our customer service and like what I mentioned before we aren't going to please everyone but the ones we can't we still take care of it like in this case by refunding them everything. I understand Jeremy's frustration in not being able to run at the LSX Shootout but we lost in this deal too. We are still committed to our all our customers and we are always trying to improve in quality and customer service and use this opportunity to improve what we do here at ERL.

If so I'd hate to see how you treat other customers...There isn't a company out there that is perfect and we aren't perfect either. So great customer service is asking a customr, "are you going to go online and bash us?" Then pretty much telling us to **** off after we answer "no"? Telling me we won't do anything for you so don't send the block back? All I wanted to hear was "we'll make this right, send the block back and we'll fix it. It that really that hard? It makes more sense to me to fix an issue than lose customers this way

We felt like we did what we could to make this situation right. I think if we had done nothing,Youd did "do nothing". Honestly WTF did you do? Ya I received a refund after threats of legal action and hours upon hours of phone calls. Don't try and play that card. I coulda called my CC company and reversed the charges and got my money back. I offered you a chance to make it right because I do believe you offer a badass setup. that would have been another story. Almost all my conversations were between Jeremy's engine builder and myself. At that point there was never any mention of "why did you clearance this? We told you all that I would clearance anything that needed to be clearanced" because we were never told that. Thats BS right there. We told you and Seth both multiple times you were not to clearance that block in the first place. You then sat their silent when you realised how bad you guys screwed up. You then held that 12 to 1 hour knock down against me and said we will do no more to that block, "WE ALREADY ATE 12 HOURS OF LABOR & CAN"T EAT THE LABOR AND SLEEVES TO FIX IT"
I hate that this has come to this and we couldn't agree so we felt like we did the right thing by refunding him for everything, taking the block back and sending a core back to him. My responses are above in bold. Also Sean/Seth. I know mistakes are made and no company is perfect. Its how a company handles these inperfections that sets them apart. You failed misserably. You really need to re-evaluate your customer service approach if you believe this is "great" customer service.

Oh and for all those that wanted to hear the other side, hows that working out for you?

In my eyes ERL did the right thing. ERL did not deliver and refunded. ERL lost time and money the customer lost nothing but time.

I think if you told a shop not to do something and they did it anyways and try to charge you for it, they're wrong. Atleast you got your money back

After bieng forced into it yes, I got my money back. I also lost more than time. I had many parts expedited based on the timeline I received from ERL. They didnt come through and my expedited parts came early for nothing.

I understand you guys think they did the right thing. I feel sorry for you and your situation with Six Speed Inc- I remember reading about it.

Maybe good customer service is

1.trying to charge the customer 1200 bucks for something they shouldnt have done, something that made the motor unusable. Not to mention holding this against me when there mess up was brought to attention.
2. Dodging phone calls and refusing to let me speak to the higher ups.
3. Asking if I was going to post about this online and telling me to get lsot after replying no.
4. Telling me not to send the motor back because they're through with it and won't touch it.

I can keep going.

Yes I got my money back, that was going to happen regardless. It was there choice as too the easy or hard way. They tried to sweep it under the rug and I just wanted to show everyone on here what was done and how I was treated. I would have loved to have run that setup in my car; there is no doubt in my mind it would have been pretty stout if the machining was done correctly.

So my question is this. Did the block come directly from Scoggin Dickey to ERL without ANY work in a shop? Could you provide a purchase date from Scoggin? Please post emails here that can be posted because "conversations over the phone" that happened are hearsay and it's impossible to say who's trying to cover their tracks.

At some point, the sleeves were "round" all the way around and they put their standard 4" CNC stroker clearance into it they would have called or emailed you and said "our 4" CNC program doesn't come close to matching the clearancing done by the previous vendor". At that point, didn't you ask yourself "why would you clearance it any further"?

ERL should have questioned the validity of the previous clearancing done and not done the work. If they refunded you the money for everything they'd done including freight, I'd guess that they aren't the type of people to do this kind of work period. Plenty of shysters out there that do this crap in their garage and run away with the money.

Is there one other post from anyone here from a disgruntled ERL customer with photographic proof of this kind of work? I ask that because I've never seen anything but fine CNC workmanship from the 100's of blocks I've seen used by our customers.

Block was mine from a 402 I had scoggin build. Scoggin did all the machining previously. Had less than 3000 on the clock when a piston came apart on me. I understand you questioning the validity of what was said over the phone. I will work on getting everything up here. I will also contact my shop and try to track down the info from scoggin. Not a problem sir.

We didn't get that call or email. We got an email stating they had clearanced it and I was being charged 12 hours for it ($1200).

I coimpletely agree with your first statement. I was not refunded money for freight (not complaining, its a lesson learned). I can assure you I am no shyster so please don't compare me with one. **** ups happen. Its gotta start somewhere and it started here with my motor. Plain and simple.

Like I said above, A screw up is bound to happen and it just so happened with me. I understand that. I have no reason to make a fraudulant claim against ERL. Maybe they handed my block to the "New Guy", I've got no idea. I just know mine came back looking like this.

In Bold above.

Jeremy

You talk like you are the only person telling it straight, and everyone else is a liar. I find that extremely odd, seeing as how you didn’t do any of the work, nor were you privy to all the conversations between your engine builder and ERL. The only thing that I can tell for sure is that you sent ERL a block that had already been clearance, and they sleeved the block and hand clearance the new sleeves to match YOUR clearanced block. Now you say that you told ERL not to clearance the sleeves and ERL says that you did... Then ERL wanted you to pay for work they did and you cried foul. THEN your engine builder gets the block and cries foul again after his new pistons fall out of the bottom of the block. Hmmmm... So what does ERL do? After (whatever time frame) they give you a new block and your money back... And you thank them by smearing their name on a public forum and cry victim again... WOW!!! Yeah, you go Jeremy!!!! Tell those bass-turds @ ERL you will never spend... Ah errrr... Never take back another dime of your... Ah, errrr... Take back another dime or their money again!!!... That will teach them!!

Oh I have heard nothing but great things about them and its honestly a shame this had to happen. I'm happy I got my money back but think I'm more pissed that I didn't get a chance to run it. Like I've stated they have their blocks in some damn fast cars (yours will most likely be one). I just wish it could have ended better.
