The only castings released So far where pre-release
test parts to a few shops like myself to work
out any issues.
The final release castings are very nice.

So when did we become Ricers around here? A Sonny's 932 makes 2.25hp/inch for $89k. A stock honda s2000 makes 1.97hp per cubic inch on pump gas. We don't race 1st grade mathbooks though.
Jud will be the first to tell you small cubes make the same horsepowerpower as big cubes with the same top end...just be prepared to replace valvesprings a lot more often...he's already turning well over 10k. In class racing, they've done pretty good in Edelbrock Hot Street with their mustang and their old big block small cube Malibu back in the day.

Exactly, if the SAM engine had stroke taken out it would put out more hp/inch but who cares? It would go slower in that heavy car too as it would lose some power as well.
If you're stuck in a HP/inch class then it would have been a smaller engine from the begining of course and would have been built that way and would be somewhat different as well because of that.
I'm sure that the LSx DR head will end up pretty nice after it is all scienced out in the end by everyone. It will make more Hp/inch on smaller engines like every head and more total power on larger engines like every head.
I'm sure it will make more power than a C5R head in the end as well especially on the bigger stuff.

I like rice. My newest project is going to be a 250 ci 4 cyl which is nothing but a Pro Stock motor with one head half an intake shooting for 650 hp to start with. Oh yea it is going to have CP Pistons in it too
CFE gets 16,000 for a a set of SBX heads, billet runner manifold, hollow stem ti valves on the intake, soild ex valves that can make 1000 hp. To me and the pictures I have seen these are in the same league of visible quality.
Curtis, if you read this before PRI tell John at Centroid Chris McGaha said hi. And I'm wondering how you got that smooth of a finish on that chamber and if it took very long. They are still pretty.

Curtis, I wouldn't worry too much, when Kurt Urban first showed up on LS1.com back in 1999 telling people he had driven 9-seconds in an LS1 car, everyone told him "yeah right" and "get outta here". Of course he was telling the truth, because he drove the yellow GM Camaro for John Moss whic ran 9's all day. So don't sweat the credentials thing, it's the Internet after all

At this point thank God they are trying to make the LSX shootout something real in all motor. Hopefully they never sink as low as the bracket race NHRA and try and start slowing everyone way down to make the small engine guys happy with their "better" engines when it's only taking weight off that can make them faster.
The truth is the larger engines are better in everyway except for some imaginary number called hp per inch. People that want to make less hp at a higher rpm can always go to the NHRA where they specialize in that. Just make any engine smaller and you will lose some power but pick up hp per inch so no secret there.
I say keep the weight something reasonable in all motor (3000-3200) and let people run what they brung in real cars. Of course then small engine people will run what they run and of course it won't be up front. Then again why in the hell would anyone build a 300 inch LS1 otherwise? Why reward people for builing a more expensive and slower and less reliable engine? Keep it real.

And by the way, Welcome Curtis... you definitely have my respect. I've been around serious race cars for about 10 years now and your definitely in the top eschelon (sp) of head porters.

Tom Hemphill went to represent the first guys with machines.
Mine works great still BTW, ..
The chamber cnc is just done in MasterCam and 3 axis cnc'd, ..
you might be surprised at how a RFD head is so much better executed
then others, .. chamber took about an hour per head.
Same care taken on these as I do with a DRCE or Ford prostock head.

I don't really like visitors, .. we have a small shop and I always
have "secret squirrel" work that can't be seen by anyone, ..
if you call ahead you can visit, .. but keep in mind I'm really busy.

Last I heard in december was they were going to work on a 2 pc cast manifold for it..maybe? Curtis may chime in sooner or later..not to sure if he visits this board to often.

Honestly, its great to see this kind of technology hit the LSx scene. Price is going to always be an issue but there is always a pro racer that wants to try something new.... hope to be that guy one day!

yup Edelbrock is going to do a manifold, just dont know how soon.
i have several of these lsr projects going, .. one is using a custom
sectioned cast manifold, . . .
the project Scot posted is gonna rock, .. and look at how clean
that install is, ..
The heads seem to be as nice as you'd expect, they post a nice
velocity profile, nice delivery to the valve and into the chamber, ..
should make good power, .. and just because I know someone will ask,
yes they can flow 450+ on my bench.
