Default L92 stroker cam selection

How would I go about picking a cam for setup

415-418 stroker with L92 heads, good valve job, and port cleanup, no enlargement though

Want a mean daily driver engine. Want to turn it 6600-7000rpm max but I don't want a power number 75hp greater than the torque. I'd like the horsepower and torque to be an equal number if anything favoring the torque up to but no greater than 25lbs feet. As close to equal as possible and would definately like to make at least 400lbs ft by 4000rpm.

6speed, 3500lbs 3.73 gear

i never heard of anyone who DIDN'T want more horsepower... how much HP u make on top will depend on how much TQ u make at the high RPM's... u can make plenty of TQ down low, but if u can't make TQ at 5500-6000, ur HP will drop accordingly...

engpwrsys.com has some pretty good L92 cams. A few other sponsors have some good cams. Just do a lil research and pick something to reach your goals.

You can also get in touch with Patrick G or Predator Z on here and they can get you something spec'd out.

Not making a drag car. I want a 6600-7000rpm engine as I stated. I don't having a high rpm torque peak as long as its at can create at least 400tq by 3500-4000rpm.

I'd rather have a 525hp/525tq engine than say a 545hp/495tq engine

A good engine designer whom you will not second guess!

Since that isn't going to happen, look around on the forums for somone who has done a successful similar engine and copy what they did. I have one in mind...but he won't tell you the cam specs, only it's name.

Good luck.

I don't wanna just copy somebody else's stuff. I want to know why it's so hard for someone to learn something on this forum so that they aren't always left in the blind in certain subjects.

I was hoping this would turn into a good tech thread.

Lot's of good info in this thread. I think people w/ L92/LS3 builds got a lot out of it. He made 400RWT at 3k.

a cam that makes good tq down low will not make good hp up top, so i don't think u want an engine that spins to 7000... if u have a good set of ported heads that don't let the tq drop at higher rpms, u will get more hp up there as well... example:
small cam, stock heads = good tq at low rpm, decent tq at peak, low hp
big cam, stock heads = low tq at low rpm, decent tq at peak, decent hp
small cam, ported heads = big tq at low rpm, big tq at peak, decent hp
big cam, ported heads = decent tq at low rpm, big tq at peak, big hp

sounds like u want a good set of heads and a medium sized cam, unless u really want 7000, than u want big cam too... u can make 400tq at 3000 with a smaller cam, but it will never pull to 7000, u may get your square #'s, but the hp peak will be at 6000

I want an engine that spins to 6600rpm because that what my current one does now and I cant stand the thought of a fresh built engine not turning as high. Peak hp is not always and most of the time not the best shift point from stuff I've seen.

Sounds like your looking for a VVT 418.

Is it 6600 or 7000?

How about this? You're only going to get better tip in with a Maggie.
