so the 376 has 4 bolt heads and the 454 has the 6 bolt heads. Got it. Thanks. I was looking at the 376, but the heads are a big turn off. I guess I could always buy the longblock and sell the heads, then put some 6 bolt heads on it

heads are l92's. they flow more than most aftermarket heads that are also 4 bolt heads. I understand the want for 6 bolt heads for real high boost. but most people are only running 4 bolt heads on their oe blocks(ls1,ls2, lq9) anyway. so whats the big deal? this is a steal considering the block alone is $2300

That block is more than you need in a budget build, If your not going with good rods and 6 bolt heads why do you need a LSX block? wouldn't a LQ9 block be a better choice for the price? This just seems like the cheep way to be able to say "My car has a LSX block"...it's not gonna realy make anymore power than you would make with a 6.0L block with stock rods and stock LS3 heads...now that's a budget boost motor.

I dont understand why people keep putting this deal down i think its an awesome deal i actually just bought one. A ls3 corvette made 670 to the tire with an epp blower cam and 8 lbs of boost. That motor was told to me that people have already made 16 lbs of boost on it. So if 8 lbs of boost is close to 700 how much more power do u need to make? I also have the epp blower cam see no reason why that motor wont make more then enough power for the street plus u have plenty of room to grow not to mention it comes with a 2 year 50000 mile waranty show me an engine builder that is doing that.

When they developed the LSX block they chose to go the iron route because they wanted a blocked capable of handling way over 1000 hp. I think it's a little tough to do that with an all aluminum block but I am sure there are somes folks that do that with an aluminum LS block. I would be curiouse to know your reliability before you develop any issues with the block. The LSX was GM's response for hard core racers who also wanted an iron LS type block to bore the block more than once or be able to stroke it.
Yes a truck block is much cheaper but at the end of the day is still not as robust as this block, plus I think the oiling system was improved etc. It all comes down to what you want to spend and this is what GM came up with. Warren Johnson played a pretty key role in designing the LSX block....I am sure it's a bit different than a regular iron 6.0 truck block as racing was the primary purpose of the LSX block, not hauling hay.
You can buy the bare block for around 2k or so and build it anyway you want if you don't like the PM rods. If you are really on a budget you can get a bare truck 6.0 for well under 1k.
I think this is a good buy but to each his own. I'm sure there is someone out there that can find a better deal and make more power with something else.

I'm really curious how much power this shortblock can handle. I'm thinking the rods will be ok but the rod bolts would be the weak link. hmm
How are you coming along with your's A.J.?
