Default 05 GTO setup (6L L92) - getting it right from the beginning!

Spent more then a few hours doing some research on a few sites and i end up more confused then when i started. Ready to add some more power to my 05 GTO (automatic) which has full bolt ons right now. Ive come to like the idea of a N/A build because you can spread the mods out to stay interested.

Car has good power now, has some definate dead spots thanks to the a4 and lacks top end pull. Driving like stock is VERY important, as is having a reliable setup that doesn't need constant tinkering, im not a fan of donkey dick cams or very very choppy idles...a little chop is good .

Original plan -

Stall now (will be getting a FTI, was set on 3600 1.8STR)

Cam this fall (was planning 228/232 around .600/.600 112ishLSA)

heads next spring (milled L92's)

I want to make sure i get a stall that matches my future setup so it all works together.

Looking at Cams recommended for L92 heads i see 218/224 and 224/230 comp cams are coming highly recommended. Those seem like small cams to me, especially the first... is a small cam like that really going to pull hard up to 6600ishrpm?

Seems like if i was to get a 218/224 i wouldn't even need a higher stall converter, or maybe a 3200 if i did...

Looking for a setup that will pull hard with no real dead spots. Right now starting at 37ish to 45 is pretty uneventful, so is 77ish to 85....bottom of the gear, lack of torque i guess, hence the original plan of a high stall.

If the car hasnt been tuned thats one reason for the dead spot cause of the torque management. Grab a set of 3.73's as well. A set of PRC 243's or L92's will work well but it will be cheaper for you to go with the 243's since you already have a set and can send them in to be CNCed.

Car has been tuned. Reason for the deadspot is im hitting the bottom of the next gear at like 3,000rpm, i need closer gears, more power or a higher stall.

Also should say with 3.46 stock gears and a 25.6" tire i wont go with more aggressive gears. Already high enough of an rpm while cruising at 75

It shifts into 2nd gear and goes down to 3k RPM? What is it shifting at?

No, i mean starting at those spots. On the street, if i was to start at 38 or so mph. Going from a stop there are no real dead spots, it keeps pulling.

No cam recomendations for a Ls2 that would work really well with L92's as well as being DD friendly? Im 99% set on a 3600 stall/1.8 STR

Can't give you any recomendations for a cam with those heads, but I had a good friend of mine running 11.7-8 on his VRX-3 cam only gto with a vig 3200 stall. For what it had, the bitch ran strong!

Also, if you really want a good cam spec for those heads and your overall combo of mods, get in touch with Patrick G on here (he's an admin). He'll spec you a custom grind cam that'll work perfect for whatever combo you end up going with.
