Default Crate Eng VS from dismantler

Newbie here. Looking at an LSA for a project. Why is it they are 12-13K as a crate engine but plenty are buying them out of wrecked CTS-Vs for 16-17K. Is there a good reason to avoid buying a crate motor that I'm missing because I am completely confused.

Crate is looking better and better to me, was quoted 8500 for an L92 eng/tranny pullout with 19k on it today.

I Installed a new GM Performance Partrs Crate LSA in my 2010 Camaro. Warranty and zero miles. If people are buying LSA salvage engines fro more I would assume they are getting the accesories, ECU and harness.

GMPP has a part number for the accesories kit but it is not available at this time. The only way to complete the engine is to but the components individually.

Kinda pain for some people.

Bad *** engine!

Robin's assumption looks 100% accurate. ALL the accessories add up quick, especially new GM parts. Add all that up, plus the fact that distributors are selling new crates at VERY thin margins versus the fact that the dismantlers realize there is a premium on some parts and BANG: there is a "negative spread." Also, folks are realizing that the warranty is not as valuable to many for several reasons.

So in summary: if you're putting the motor into an LS platform (with 58x), crate is the way to go. If you're doing a total conversion, dismantler is the way to go.

thanks all, more food for thought. Have plenty of room to go TVS and my tranny is limited to 700ft/lbs but it is in a garage build so i have no accessories or wiring to begin with. Was weighing up just getting a LSA from GMP or a CTS-V salvage engine. But now wonder about a LS2 from salvage and swapping out rods and pistons for forged, dropping the comp ratio and adding the supercharger and injectors all done as an engine build somewhere.

Like you say, the cost of the accessories must really add up to pay 4K over a crate price for a salvage LSA motor.

I got my LY6 (iron block 6.0L version of the L92) for ~$2k out the door... motor had 8,000 miles on it and runs beautifully.
