I just pulled the other LS2 pistons and rods and they are all the same way. Piston dot forward, rod dimple towards the rear on all of the assemblies.
I have the LQ4 as well and looking at the bottom of the motor (motor upside down on stand with pan off) rounded part of rod and cap towards rear and flat part forward on all of them. It is very obvious to see the radius or flat side on the LQ4 looking at the bottom of the rods...

Big end chamfers NEVER point toward one another. They both have a small chamfer on one side and a large one on the other. Large chamfers always point toward the crank counterweight, it's there to clear the wide radius on the filet of a well made crank.

So what is the correct answer? Everyone on here seems to have a different one. Looks like the only motor anyone knows for sure on is the gen III with the weak rods.

It actually doesn't matter with the stock rods and crank. The journal don't have a radius like aftermarket cranks do so they can be orientated either way. You just want to make sure the piston is orientated correctly.

The question I guess has been answered now I just like to add how to make it easy and speed the process, I scribe each flat surface of the small end with an arrow tours the front of engine before disassembly, if not changing the piston I go with the piston mark tours the front and number the rods per firing order.

I agree, and have always done this on engines I personally disassemble. But when you are cobbling together a bunch of used parts, a little direction is needed.
