Default Help me ID this engine LQ4 or LY6

I just bought a 6.0 engine and I'm not for sure what it is. It supposedly came from a 07 2500 HD truck. I saw the truck it was in and it was a 2500HD but the VIN had been removed from it so I could not confirm for sure which engine this is.

It has Aluminum 317 heads. I thought being an 07 it would have VVT and be a LY6 and have a different looking timing chain cover? But I haven't seen the VVT timing chain cover to know for sure what to look for. Here are some pics please tell me what you think.

Thanks

The LY6 would have the square port heads and a cam sensor on the timing cover. That's either an LQ4 or LQ9.

The cover that you have is like the standard LS1 with the cam sensor in the top rear of the block , The VVT cover has a cam sensor & VVT sensor made in the center of the front cover.

Thanks for the info! Is there a way to find out if the engine is really a 07?

There should be a serial number marked on the block. I don't recall how to decipher it, but it will tell you the year and month the engine was built. I'm fairly certain that it is an 06 or older though.

The reason it can easily be an 07 engine and still be the old style is that 07 was a crossover year. You had the Silverado Classic which was the old body style with the early engines, and you also had the newly redesigned Silverado which was the new body style with the new engines.

I think this engine is an 03 LQ4. The date code on the front of the block is A0373 wich would mean Jan 7th 2003.

The block casting # is 12551364. Mortec site is down right now so I'm not sure about that #.

There Laser etched number on the drivers side of the block above the oil filter is A027031422. Anyone know what that # means?

The heads have two different #'s stamped in them. 0303013467622319 and 3030M11252363.

The saw the truck this engine came out of, it was parted out so very little was left of it but the odometer did say 72K. I'm guessing the truck was really an 04 or this engine came from something else and was swapped in. Any additional information anyone can tell me from these #'s would be appreciated.
