Default Piston Choice Question

I was given this spec sheet for my Forged 402 Stroker build and i'm wondering what ya'll think about the Piston choice for a non-boosted motor? I'm being told by others that those 32cc dish pistons are meant for boosted motors and since i'm going for an all motor build that i need more compression to maximize HP? Any thoughts or suggestions on Pistons that would better suit the build? Thanks

Here's the Build Sheet

Forged 402" Stroker
Callies compstar 4340 4.0" Crankshaft
Callies 6.125" H beam Rodss with ARP bolts
Wiseco Forged FI Pistons -32cc dish
Childs Albert Dura Moly Rings
Clevid MS 2199 H Mains
Clevite CB 663 H rods
Dura Bond Cam bearings
ARP Main Studs
Comp LSR Cam (235/243 .621/.624) 113 LSA
Roll Master Double roller timing set
Melling High Volume Oil Pump
Comp hardened Pushrods
CNC Ported Stage 2 GM LS-Series Cylinder Heads
Dual Coil valve springs and titanium lifters
LS Crank Bolt
Comp OE lifters
ARP Head Bolts
NGK Spark Plugs
LS MSD 8.5 MM Wires
SLP Underdrive Pulley
Dyno Tuned

That is a strange choice for a N/A engine, were you at one time going to put some forced induction on the engine? Have you consulted with the builder about what you want and what you intend to use it for?

I called them this morning to ask them about it and just as i thought, thats not what they used. That was a generic build sheet that they had saved on their computer for the stroked 402. Since my car will be an all motor car they went with more of a flat top style piston so the compression should be around 11.5/1 and will be the right choice for spray down the road. I'll get a new build sheet with the actual specs on my motor tomorrow.

Thumbs up

Put down right around 470/440 at the wheels using the stock intake and throttle body for now. Hoping to pick up a Fast 102 and throttle body later this month or next. Runs great though, LMR did a great job on it.

Nice build, I've got Wiseco -8cc dished for my 408 N/A application as well. Which heads did you use? What cc? Intake? Flow? Valve size?

thanks , the specs are

GM 243 castings
5 axis CNC machined
Fully assembled
220cc Intake Runner
Intake flow rate of 305cfm and Exhaust Flow rate is 235cfm
New 2.000 intake valves / 1.550 exhaust valves
GM valve seals
Super 7 locks
dual coil valve springs good to ~ .690 lift
titanium retainers

LMR sold them as their "Stage II" heads engraved with LMR on them.

Gotcha, I assume by stock intake/TB you're using the LS2 setup? I am using stock 799s with mid length headers, LS6 intake, ported LS6 TB. I put down 450/475.

Aren't the LS6 and LS2 intakes pretty comparable as far as flow goes, with the edge maybe going to the LS6? Its weird how our numbers can vary by that much even though you heads and exhaust outflow mine, my torque is out the wahzoo. Do you have a dyno sheet?

yeah the stock intake and tb are just the ls2 stockers for now.

I just went and found the dyno sheet and the exact numbers were 467.10/439.76
