Default Scat or Eagle?

I am going to build a TT LS2, forged bottom end. Question is Scat or Eagle?

EDIT: My vote, Callies/Compstar!

4" stroker crank and H beam rods. While I'm at it, which pistons? For a standard bore LS2 Aluminum block. Oh, and which vendor?

You sir need to do some research.
And if you plan on building your own shortblock - have fun with that...

I was told by a number of different machinists that Scat and Eagle crankshafts and rods were actually produced by the same foundry, on the same equipment. The only difference is where the components get the FINAL machining process done at. This is what I have been told and to some degree, believe. If you visually compare most of the components, they are identical. Just food for thought...

For pistons, Mahle, Wiseco, Diamond are all good choices

For rest of rotating assembly, go with Callies or K1.

If it was down to Scat or Eagle, Scat crankshaft jounrals we find are more true and round, Eagle we find more with tapered and/or out of round journals.

Compstar is good on quality control, they have made slight changes to the crankshaft, just keeps getting better, and they have a keyway. Which belive it or not i've seen a few LS motors that spin the balancer, no blower, one was turbo car other N/A. I'd like to have a balancer keyway whenever possible.

That is the purpose of this thread. Research. As far as building my own shortblock, what are you trying to say?

The final machining process is what sets the crankshafts apart. That seems to also determine the final pricing of the piece as well.
Who makes a crankshaft with a keyway?

I agree with Shawn and Fraser. Compstar is nicest and Eagle probably craziest on cranks.

We used Eagle cranks for years and still do but we often have some that we have to trim the crank to get them straight.

Eagle rods we have no issue with but the cranks are not always the greatest especially as compared to SCAT and Callies and Lunati.

SCAT also has a key in the front as well but some have different flywheel bolts.

I am going with the SCAT 4" stroker crank, and SCAT H BEAM rods with ARP2000 rod bolts. I chose -30cc Race Tech Forged pistons, (4" bore).

Does scat make a on center rod for ls1's? I thought they were all off set from small block apps? Not that they won't work, just asking.

What do most think of the k1 stuff?

If the differences are small, then concentrate on things like weight, and the knife edges. Then check on the coatings available for the pistons.

As stated above, the Scat crank journals are held to a tighter tolerance and more round...Eagle cranks have been known to be out of round and need a .01" cut to true them up. Can't say I've had issues with the rods. Any of the piston companies can make you a quality piston. Each company has pro's/cons. For the LS crowd I like K1, Callies Compstar or Dragonslayer cranks, and their respective rods. Scat offers the SBC rods in place of a true LS rod. KY-Turbo is a dealer for the K1, Callies, and Scat product lines as well as JE, Diamond, Wiseco, and Ross Pistons. Good luck on your build
