VVT delete 2x and 4x cam sprocket differences
I used a LS2 2x 3 bolt cam sprocket and LS2 cover when I removed the vvt from a 2008 LY6 with zero problems. I did the VVT delete and changed it over to carb using a MSD 6012.
Most people changing over to carb are using the 4x 3 bolt cam sprocket and LS2 cover when they remove the VVT.
My 2008 engine had to have had a 58 crank reluctor.
I am just wondering why it works fine both ways with the 6012 and carb converted?
Whats the differences in the 2X and 4x cam sprocket, outside the obvious?

As long as the 1X or 4X reluctor on your cam gear (and 24x or 58x on the crank) matches what your engine controller or PCM is programmed for and expecting, it'll run fine. I have never seen any empirical evidence that one is more stable or able to run better than the other, all others being equal.

I am using a 4x cam gear and GenIV non-vvt cover on my LY6 vvt delete. I am also using a msd 6012 and a carb.
My MSD refuses to accept the cam sensor signal. It will start, but it just guesses at #1 cyl tdc. It will sometimes guess wrong and backfire while cranking. Laptop shows cam sensor fail, but I know it is good.
How is your 6012 working with the 2x cam gear?????

Perfect... never a problem. I have since sold the truck and work on it exclusively for the owner.
What you had mentioned, is one of the reasons I asked. I'm wondering if your problem might have a little to do with reusing the LY6 cover sensor on the late model timing cover or maybe some mismatch otherwise.

EDIT: Did you see this, it looks like the 6012 box should expect the 4x sprocket, why the hell is it not working for you?! That is worrisome! http://www.lingenfelter.com/page/ls-...lector-id-page I guess the sprockets are cheap enough to try the different ones but man that is irritating!
Is it required to get a different non-vvt front cover? Which one to get, is it an early 58 tooth LS2 cover? Thanks again!
