My first home build LS2 404ci
Hi guys
I just wanted to make a new thread about my first home build
here is my Vette
C5 2003 50th anniversary convertible whith complete Z06 suspension and drivetrain and MN6 gearbox
LS2 402ci NA
best 1/4mile time so far is 11.16@126 but that was whith bad top pistons rings on 4 pistons, had a lot of blowby was 20% less compression on them 4 cylinders then on the others.....
The reason for that is last spring i had a bad knock :smash: so bad it broke one of my piston and made a deep crack in one.
It also looks like in two other pistons a small piece from the broken piston had hammered them a lot.
but for some reason i canīt understand i juste swapped out that 4, but that was a mistake because the rings was crushed/hammered on them all :yesnod:
And then after few months of driving and some drag racing with alot of blowby i spun a bearing!!
so the engine had to come out :ack:
but what i saw was this: a crack in my Crank, seems like a little piece broke out of the small crack and then offcourse the bearing was gone that my guess !!
And i saw the piston where all scratched too and the sleaves had bad marks in them.....
My motor was trashed.....
All the top rings on the 4 pistons that had not been swapped out was like this
So i went whith the block to my local machine shop
they did a .005" clean up on the sleaves (didnīt wante to take more off)
And ordered from Jon@TSP New pistons (.005" bigger) Wiseco 4.010" -10cc, and i needed two new rods they where damadged after the bearings
The Crank i got claimed.
TSP helped me out there, but i needed new ballance for it offcourse, so TSP arranged that for me too.
and then i bought all new bearing and gaskets!!!
So itīs time for building me a 404ci
LS2 block after clean up
Pre assembly, check bearing clerance
Had one here build me a Tourq-plate
gaped the rings for NOS
Final clean up for the final assembly
NEW Eagle 4340 steel crank 4.00" stroke install
New TSP Wiseco 4.010" -10cc dish pistons + Eagle H-beam rods 6.125"
Wiseco GFX steel top ring 2nd napier
Shortblockīs asembly finished LS2 404ci

thanks for good comments
In LS2 you can go from stock 4.00" bore all the way to 4.020" also you could go 4.030" but then you would be pushing it.
TSP did not recomend to go higher then 4.020" in bore, but i only went from 4.005" to 4.010" because iīm gona try give it a bit of nitrous
in LS2 whith 4.00" crank:
4.000" bore : 402ci
4.005" : 403ci
4.010" :404ci
4.020" :406ci
4.030": 408ci
so iīm 0.10" over stock.....

So next thing is putting the Motor into the car, it tooke only one day
here are the results.....
a car lift is a must.......
Rear Craddle down first whith Diff, tranny and tube...
Then Rear Craddle down and Spec 3+ Clutch installed and the bellhouse
Motor on the Craddle
Kooks 1"7/8 long tubes under
Lower the body on the Motor
there iīm going over the electric wires
Now things are getting fun.....
Both craddles are now under
Now the Exhaust The Kooks goes to 3" Xpipes
And then to 3" Dual pipes to a QTP dual 3" Cutouts after that itīs Z06 Titanium catback
This is how it looks now under the hood
Joe Gibbs break in oil
And then the first startup http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVv-7JquMTs
thanks a lot

The PTV clerance is plenty, iīm running -10cc dish pistons, was running -8cc dish before, i knew from the past it was enough the cam has plenty of overlap, this was more to double check.
The LS7 lifters was just soaked in oil few days before and then installed and measured

Is there a way to turn the lifters into a solid lifter in order to check PTV clearance and degree the cam?
I have 2 lifters that I thought I would TIG weld the cup but it's more difficult than I first thought.
