Default ready to build

Im waiting for my 9inch to get here and I am trying to decide what block to get. I want a ls motor with 427ci. I was going to go with the LSX gmpp block, but I figure i will be $3500 into the block after machine work. I want to use an iron block incase i decide to run a little boost. what is a good platform to work off of that is cost effective. I am looking to build 550-600whp. 4.125 bore with a 4in stroke. forged bottom end with 11.1 on pump gas. once i figure out what block i am going to use, then I will source my top end options. im not looking for cheap alternatives. I want to spend the money where its needed and not spend my money stupidly. If i dont need it to make my power reliably then I am not going to buy it. I want to overbuild the motor a bit. Thanks for any kind response!

427 LS and cost effective do not go in the same sentence.

You might look at ERL for a sleeved short block - will easily accomodate your power goals and accept some boost as well.

An iron 402 or 408 will be significantly less money to build.

not really looking to go cheap, just trying to be smart and if I dont need to spend $3500 alone on the engine block alone then why do it. I will if its my only option, but I see people using sleeved ls2/ls3 motors, but arent these smaller bore blocks? I like the bigger bore than stroke idea!

I know we have a commbination that will meet your needs. There is no reason to go with an iron block as it will only add weight to the build and is no stronger than one of our sleeved Superdeck I blocks. You are right that once you have all the machining done to the LSX you are at the same cost of us sleeving, machining and honing your LS blocks. Our product is completely ready for you to assemble when it comes back to you or we can provide you with a fully assembled, balanced and blueprinted short block. You can find all our packages and products on our website at www.erlperformance.com. Please give us a call if you have any questions and we would be happy to help. Thanks.

well I have decided that I am going to use a sleeved LS2 block. forged bottom end and i am thinking about running 11.5.1 with ls3 or ls7 heads(havent decided on the heads yet yet). not sure if i need to go much bigger than a 90/92mm intake. im stuck on my cam choice. anyone got any good ideas for a cam that has good power but is nice to drive everyday?

how many cubes?
If you go either Ls3 heads you need an Ls3 intake,
and if you go Ls7 you have to use Ls7 intake for that too. Any way you decide you'll need a FAST 102 IMHO.

I'm with most guys here when you ask for "fast, reliable and cost effective". They usually don't know one another in this type of build.

With that compression, you might as well forget F/I. Still going 427? Decide on your power goals (IMO, talk to one of these guys over here>>>>), choose your heads and cam as a combo. THEN check your bank balance and see if they agree.

If you're going LS7 or LS3, plan on a 102 to maximize your potential.

Im not trying to be cheap about it. I am building the engine myself. I will have the machine work done by the machine shop. I dont want to apend 20k on a motor that I can build for 10k. I am just getting ideas for a parts list so i can start putting this thing in action. Im just getting ideas here thats all.
