LY6 6.0 231/247 cam l92 heads seems a little lazy, what can i do?
A little background info. my last setup was a full bolt on ls1 224/224 cam ,fast 78mm intake with stock 799 heads,373 gears and a yank pt4000 converter. car pulled very nicely.plenty of low end torque and midrange. the Yank pt4000 was pretty loose but the motor spun a bearing anyway so for my new setup i wanted to see what all the hype was with the 6.0 and l92 heads. I sold off everything i couldnt use, including my fast intake(sad to see it go). found a 20k mile LY6 9.6 compression with l92 heads motor. added a stock ls3 intake, FAST 90mm throttle body, Thunder racing 231/247 off the shelf cam .614 .617 lift supposed to work great with l92/ls3 heads. same boltons and had to switch to 342 gears since the 373s took a crap. Also went down to a Yank 3600 ss series stall. way more tame and barely notice its even there. So i thought this setup would blow away my old ls1 setup which was probably 370-380 rwhp. I know the converters are 2 different animals but i figured the extra cubes and l92 heads,bigger cam would easily make up the difference and then some. My regrets with this setup are that i should have went with a custom cam and i should have milled the heads. setup feels decent and is very driveable and fun but was expecting more. Now i just wanna see what i can do to bring out the potential. Im mainly leaning toward a cam swap,a smaller cam with more low end torque because i liked the feeling of the ls1 224. or should i look into 373s or elsewhere

I don't know the LSA or camshaft timing events but I bet your DCR is low.....
To top it off the combination is wrong......
Leave the converter alone
Leave the gears alone....You could go to 3.73's...4.11's overdoing it....and and pending if you have a posi, if you go to 4.11's you will need a new carrier prob....
You could mill the heads, but then you have to still check PTVC
If you are set on that cam, I would mill em... .030-.040 and even then your going to be limited on the comp to maybe 10.2-10.4 so don't get too excited.... Milling will increase your static but most importantly DCR......pending your camshaft timing events...... Nothing against Thunder racing but to me that is not the best street car cam...... If these camshaft timing events are true, the combination of low gears, low stall and high duration with a wide LSA, low DCR and SCR, too much overlap, will produce a soggy low end but killer topend.... with 13* of overlap with an auto.... You better have a great tuner......
I talk about this frequently, guys need to build a combination geared around intent and honest intent..... the 3.42 to 3.73 is not going to make a drastic difference..... a few rpm.....
The combination is off in my opinion......

yeah i know the gear swap will run me around or close to 500 with parts as i will have to pay to get installed. may not be worth it.
Milling the heads wont be too costly, just time consuming as all i will have to pay for is new bolts gaskets and machine work.then to i would have to have the car down while waiting on the machine shop. And i will have to be careful with PTV clearance.
The cam swap will be easiest for me to accomplish just not sure on the grind

That cam is too big for low a compression build and too big for DD use imo. I think you would do yourself a huge service by swapping it out rather than rebuilding the whole engine/drivetrain around the cam you currently run. EPS cams have been producing great results cam only. For the 30 bones or thereabouts it would cost you have PatG spec you one out and give you power estimates I think you could easily get a grind that fits your stall/gear set up perfectly with ease

I would be going for more compression around 11:1 and earlier ICL. More compression can make a huge difference though especially if it is so low. The EVO may be to early aswell,230-240 112 might be a better cam. Check the cam timing too. What is the cranking compression? Dont change to much just small steps that make decent gains.
