Yes, you have to remove the pistons and change the rods as well. You can reuse the pistons though. But I would balance everything.
You could sell it. And rebuild your 5.3L. Bore it to LS1 size and you have an iron block 5.7L. But I doubt you get any money out of the 4.8L as no one wants it.
So ou could bore the 4.8L and add the LS/5.3 crank and rods. As well as find a set of 243/799 and mill them alittle to make it higher CR. That would make nice power.

All the 2007-up Gen IV 4.8/5.3L motors come with the 243/799 heads. I have even seen a 2009 truck that even had a 799 on one side and a 243 on the other from GM.
