Relucter Wheel Hitting Piston #8 Pin Boss!!
Did a tear down of my engine last week and found some interesting things. Not too happy about alot of it but at least i know now why some issues were happening. One huge problem was the oil control ring/scraper ring had 120-150 thousands clearance. All i can say is WOW, how could have this been overlooked!?? Next we just found today that the relucter wheel was hitting piston #8 pin boss and had pretty much clearanced itself if you know what i mean!! So my question is wouldn't the piston company(Wiseco) know about this and have these pistons clearanced already?
Now i know the builder should have caught this but that's pretty much lookin' up a dead horses *** now......

That is p---s poor that is for sure. I have built quite a few ls engines and no excuse for the piston hitting reluctor unless it was rocking in the bore a lot or was the wrong piston. Good builders check out everything and take their time. If it gets routine or they get in a hurry problems will always arise. I am limiting my stroke on my 440 build to 4 inches for that reason and rpm capability. How much do your pistons come out of sleeve at bottom of stroke?

If they are familiar with building LS strokers they should have known to clearance the #8 piston for the reluctor. Pretty standard practice. You should probably check and make sure the reluctor is still clocked right before you put it back together if it's not ruined. As far as the oil rail sounds like they may have just put the wrong bore size ring on all together?

Hmm . . .
Can you still read the Piston model number on the top of the piston ?
EXAMPLE: https://ls1tech.com/forums/attachmen...ld-ls1-038.jpg
I'm thinking that someone might have pulled the wrong set off the shelf . . . Same thing could have happened for the rings, too.
I think your engine builder should take responsibility for what happened and "do the right thing" . . . He should have seen ALL of those problems at the time !

I would have your engine builder discuss this problem with Wiseco. ie. compare part numbers and things of that nature. (assuming your builder still have the invoices from them) Trust me I know it sucks, but I would recommend finding the problem before making accusations against the manufacture. Just my two penny's, I hope you get to the bottom of this!

Had the exact same thing happen to me tonight...408 stroker,I was spinning the lower assembly over and it locked up a bit..Luckily I was spinning it slow. Turns out #8 was hitting reluctor wheel. Upon closer inspection (Diamond Pistons) 1 of the pistons was clearenced for the reluctor wheel. Switched pistons, problem solved.
