Default L76/ New Callies Compstar crank tolerances.

Just measured these out real quick and they sound ok to me but wanted to check what you guys think for a Supercharged/street driven/and the occassional full speed highway run. 7000 RPM max, 10-14 PSI, and 10-30 full synthetic oil.

My mains measured out:
1. 0.0020"
2. 0.0018"
3. 0.0018"
4. 0.0020"
5. 0.0020"

And rods are:
1. 0.0019"
2. 0.0018"
3. 0.0022"
4. 0.0020"
5. 0.0018"
6. 0.0022"
7. 0.0020"
8. 0.0023"

Lemme know, thanks guys.

Some will tell you that your mains are a little "loose" for an alum block but trying to tighten can be a pain. I had similar clearances and tried +1 bearings and got near zero clearances. If you need tighter bearings let me know...

If those are main and rod bearing clearances, which I assume they are, you might consider re-titling the thread to reflect that

They look ok to me. I would not like the rods under .0020 like a couple of those are. Did you measure them in different places...as they are not perfect circles?

I will re-check tomorrow. It's dimly lit where I was working last night and couldn't see all too well. And this was like 11 at night I was pretty tired. I don't think .0005 difference should hurt anything really?

I think Shawn was asking that because normally the clearances are more consistent, i.e. just a couple tenths variation total. What are you using to check this?

well if your average clearance is .0020. .0005 is 25% difference. Never have seen anything in an engine where 25% difference is acceptable.

tired and poor lighting is a very bad combination when working on engines.

You are probably ok with the mains if that is correct as hot they will be a little looser. The rods are a little tight as we usually run them a little looser more like .0025 or so.

Maybe there is a spec of something behind the bearing shells against the rod housing bore or between the rods which is throwing your measurements off a little bit. Make sure everything is clean everywhere and check them again.

Would also like to know what you are using to measure them, as most DIY'ers do not have accuracy to 0.000x"

Something is not right....There should not be that much variance, we pride ourselves on consistency, the guys above can confirm that.

Yep we mic cranks all day long and set bearing clearance on every main and rod journal and Callies is very nice and very consistent!

Yup sorry the false alarm guys I was just using some crap plastigauge, so I went and got a JWK indicator. All the rods were .0021 except for number that I swear was .0019 every time I checked it. But the rod bearings I'm using are ACL coated so there may be a slight variance where I measured. I turned the crank a quarter revolution and it measured out .0020 so I'm happy about that.

Great and yes the coated bearings have some variance absolutely.
