Default 166K gto ls2 compression results....

I am no stranger to the boards here.. I lost my 99c5 with a iron 408 to a wall So I was looking for a new project and came across a nice clean 05 Gto M6 with highway miles for cheap The car appears to be taken good care of.

I am looking to do a budget build..I am a mechanic and will be doing all the work, I am looking to do Heads/cam/Exhaust/small spray..

Compression results came in at 175-180 Across the board on a cold ls2. All are very consistant.

1. I have looked for numbers to compare these results to.. Are these good numbers considering 166k is on the motor?

2. If Im willing to refresh everything, Is this a good motor still for a fairly reasonable Budget build?

Thats very good. Consistency is what you really want to look for. 180 is as good as brand new IMO. I would however, replace all valvetrain components including lifters.

How much power do you plan to make?

I plan on atleast 500 with a modest shot of nitrous.. I was planning on doing new rod bolts and bearings but leaving the pistons themselves alone.

I do agree with the mileage on lifters and the timing chain will all be done allong with new heads..

Do an oil pump while you are in there as well.

That looks like excellent compression results to me. Was that test with the injector fuses pulled and the throttle wide open?

I think that is very good. I did my goat when it had 120,000 on the odo. with inj. fuses pulled and throttle opened up. And I had 170-180 across the boards.
