oil priming new crate ls3 engine
#21
There isn't much load on the engine at idle so a lot of oil isn't even needed when you first start it up. You should be able to crank it with or without priming it and you'll be fine either way. The main thing is lubing the valvetrain before it's fired up.

This would do the trick. And it's not something you'd use only once.

We made our own prelube setup similar to melling, old R22 refrigerant tank, welded a valve cover oil fill bung on it, drilled a hole for a tire schrader valve, -4 line with an inline filter. Cost was about $50 and 2 hours work.

its pretty simple, fill it with 2 gallons of oil and 60psi compressed air, connect to the gallery plug. After about 5-10 mins see oil come out the rockers. If it could be done over again would have used -6 line, -4 doesn't move enough volume, slow to prime but gets the job done.

crank Callies 4" 4340
rods Callies 6.125" H beam
pistons Cp bullet series 4.005" forged
piston coating calico dome coating and skirt coating
Heads Trickflow 225cc CNC
Blower TVS 2300
Exhaust 2" primaries then twin 3"
Driver scared

+1 for AES doin me a 434 warhawk with mast 305cc cyl heads.!
The preoiler is a great idea i never crank the engine with no plugs ur still effectively loading the bearings with no oil pressure cranking at 300-400 rpm! these motors pull oil pressure instantly just connect up watch the gauge it will come up right away, cranking with no plugs wont prime the pump and just will do more harm then good. Ive had them apart with no bearing marks look like new doing this. the preoiler sounds excellent though.

Howdy Joel, Wheres so phat so we can listen to more of his bullshit? lol Sounds like a good combo there and you're in good hands with AES. I sent you a pm on ls1.com.au and you blocked pms. Copping a bit of flak there? Russ

The latest Hot Rod TV featured a hand pump pre-oiler similiar to the GM professional unit for half the price. It's made by Motive Products. It's called the Power Fill Pro 1 gallon. Here is the website:

Car Craft built their own. Seems a little jerry-rigged but works great also.
