How much money do you have to work with? Sleeved block (427 or 440) with great heads will tame a large cam make lots of power but cost a lot of money. Ultimate stealth approach though.

Ported L92/ls3 heads with matching intake and a small cam. Those heads like small cams anyway. Full exhaust..

Should make 450+rwhp and sound very close to stock.

Dunno if it's been mentioned as I didn't read the whole thread...but gears and/or stall converter will help greatly with acceleration and will be pretty much un-noticeable to her unless she realizes that the RPMs are now higher than normal while cruising.

Raising idle rpm will help a lot.

Most of the time the stuff I do goes unnoticed unless its an appearance thing. ie blackouts and new dash pad. But she didn't notice the 3.73's obviously, the exhaust or when I gutted the cats. i'm thinking she may notice the Lt's going on today but I'll just tell her its running bad and have an excuse to take it to get tuned haha. As long as you can provide for her, who cares what you spend the money on.

Ask for forgiveness not permission.

If it gets to the point where a divorce is coming after 10 yrs, you have a problem...No car is worth that.

Anyway as long as you don't go HUGE on the cam, she probably wont notice. The catted Lt's are a good idea to help quiet it up though.

Leave the stock rear mufflers and stick some electric cutouts right before them. Then it's game on.

Thats awesome you're getting older but... Like I said, the magnaflow mufflers are the "stealthiest" (new word) catback you can get. I've got a medium sized cam 227/235 113, and from an idle you can play it off just by saying "I put on some flowmasters babe... whats for dinner?"

I have the same car, I've done it all... Except I didn't have the third reich telling me what I could and couldn't do with my car. Cats arn't going to make it any quieter bro, wishful thinking... Getting rid of the crackle? Try getting a tuner who knows what they are doing and that helps out with the engines potential idiosyncrasies more than anything IMO.

Make it easy on yourself, get a decent CAI (not K&N), Kooks headers, a cam that you want (don't go to small) and full exhaust + tune. Then invest into wheels and tires as traction with these things are touchy. You can't fit much more than a 275 tire out back, any more needs careful work and it really wont get to much bigger w/o rubbing.

PM me if you need some direction bro.

Good luck

^^ that sounds like good advise. i will probably get a plan figured out and do a mod or 2 at a time to enjoy the increase in power of each mod. as for the crackle, maybe it was the exhaust route of the camaro, but i noticed after putting my headers and ORY, a definite crackle. real loud.

Tell her if you can't mod your car then she can't mod her body or clothes, this includes hair salon visits, pedicures, fingernails, dye jobs, makeup etc

They get mad when you put it in perspective

Then you have a wife that looks like she has rats in her hair and doesnt take care of herself. Not a good idea imo.

I've slipped a 403 and a ton of other mods past my wife. It's a game we play. I don't tell her ad she pretends not to know. She knows that at the end of the day, there are many many worse things I could be doing.

Put on your big boy pants and do what you want.

First call should be to Shawn at VSpeed for something smooth and "stealth" that makes good power.

Second call will be to a lawyer...lol. Because she'll get that "seat of the pants" feeling you've been up to no good!

Feel your pain bro...fortunately, my bride said "get after it, but do it right, ONCE!" Lol, she thinks we'll be done after this thing is running.....

Overlap is really what makes a cam detectable not necessarily just the lsa, but it does cut down on it. With that being said a 223/227 on a 116 would be nearly undetectable in a 6.0 with headers and cats. My 218/230 116 in my 5.7 has passed for just bolt-ons many a times Feel free to give me a call and we'll get you in the right cam. We're dealers for American Racing Headers and have prices too low to post. Chris, 817-750-2000

Man i've been married 12 years I can pretty much do as I need to with my cars. This being sneaky **** is funny to me, I just tell her I bought such and such and as long as I keep the bills covered she could care less.
