427 build Check Fuel Smell
Ok Guys need your help: 2002 Trans Am
I am running a 427 Short block (LS7 block), 42lb injectors, Stage 5x heads and cam and 3.73 gears. And a whole bunch of other parts.
Main problem is it is dumping fuel like crazy, i am getting about 9 miles to the gallon at normal high way cruizing. No black smoke at WOT but everything smells like fuel.
I can't take it . Everything was put together by a very reputable shop and according to them fuel smell is because of the CAM .
Shouldn't this be able to be tuned correctly to address the problem? (the shop says that those specific parameters are locked out and can't be adjusted )
Any thoughts?

To be blunt............. get a new tuner. Almost everything is accessible in the tune. Should get much much better mileage than that. May get a fuellie smell at idle but not at cruise or anything over 1400+rpm, especially with those injectors.

I would hope you have a wideband in the car. If you do what is the AFR's? I guess is the injectors are not scaled correclty and it is dumping fuel.
There is not to many radical cams that can't be tuned with street manners. I think the tuner needs to be fired. Start over from witha fresh tune.

I live in NY , can anyone recommend a solid tuner that can do this right?

WLMCD thanks for the input, I am running high flow cats. Trust me I can tolerate the fuel smell to a point, after a drive my clothes smell like fuel . Cold start in garage eyes burn with garage door open.
Again I have taken it to the shop and we had wide band pulls and they claim everything looked fine. But 9 mpg , I just can't believe it has been setup right.

Whoever is tuning the car right now, I don't thi it should be kept secret through PM. I know they are trying to run a business but whole point of this forum is for the hobbyists and other people like the original poster, looking for the best info, parts, and people took there hobby mor enjoyable. If this tuner isn't top notch, the name should be public. Just my $0.02 worth...

This will get you in the ballpark so you can drive it to their shop without contaminating your oil w/ raw gas and destroying your new engine.
Get a mail order tune w/ the injectors and engine displacement volume configured properly, change the oil, then drive it to the shop for precise tuning.
