Default New motor build questions.

Hey everyone, im a old member but this is my first post. So bare with me.

Im about to start a new motor build for my 05 GTO, but I have a few questions to ask first. I want to go at least a 418ci but would really like to get to 427ci with it. My questions are, can I get to 418ci on a LS2 without resleeving it, and still be safe on a NA application? bore the sleeves up to .030" and run a Eagle 4.100" crank for a 418ci? would that work or is a LS2 out of the question for what Im wanting to do? and I know I would be fine with a LSX block, but would weight be a issue for a everyday driver?
Thank you.

427 ls2 is easily done....has a 4 inchbore so add a 4.125 in stroke and theres your 427........pretty reliable......the ls2 is pretty much thestrongest block to work with, maybebesides ls7 but its better than all the other blocks strength wise......sothat being said, an ls2 stroker with any stroke will be reliable up to id say 900-1000 hp

Going to a 4.125 inch bore 427 using sleeves is more money but not by a ton. ERL offers a dry sleeve option for about $1500 and this includes machining on the block. Your existing block will need a trip to the machine shop no matter what your plans - take into account all the costs involved.

4.125 inch bore offers up more options on heads and they will end up with better flow numbers over 4 inch versions. Aftermarket sleeves are stronger than stock too. GM went larger bore on LS7 for a reason.

So definitely resleev for a 427 LS2??
I am going to buy another block, im not going to use the one in my car now. I want to keep a stock one on hand, being that I live in Cali. And what would be the best compression to run with it? I want to stay NA for a little while then go FI.
Thanks

For FI, a sleeved block would be stronger if you want a 427. That being said, if you go FI, you really don't need this large of an engine.

Stock or near stock cubes will make more power than you can use on the street with either turbo or Procharger with the boost turned up. AES has a iron block 390 that would be a great choice for D1 Procharger - price is reasonable too. If FI is what you ultimately want, your build will be a lot different than one for na or N20.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I never really thought about that. That would be a lot of power or a everyday driver! Good point.

I checked out that 390 from AES, I really liked, good price too, it but I weighed in all my options, prices, and I am going to just get a LS2, resleev it and go 427ci and stay all motor. How does that sound?

So now I start looking for a block

I'm having a 421ci shortblock being built by ERL right now. Stock sleeves, bored to 4.030 and 4.125" stroke. Should make for a good NA street engine, atleast i hope.

Yup, stock sleeves. Not too much of a problem as long as you have someone good building the engine with the correct parts, and to stay NA or a small shot of n2o.

Yeah I dont think i am going to risk not sleeving it, especially when it will be pretty much a daily driver.

instead of building a NA 418/427, have u thought about just putting a maggie TVS 2300 blower on ur LS2. easy 550/550 to the tire on 8lbs.

I thought about H/C/I on my LS2 2006 GTO for $9K. I could not justify spending $9-$10K to get 100rwhp and 80rwtq. and i did not want to stroke it with only 45,000 miles on it and lay out another $5K.

Then I decided to get a maggie TVS 2300 blower and a guarantee of 550 to the ground for the same price, daily driver in daily downtown los angeles, CA traffic.

I did think about that. The only thing is I want to get another block. I want to keep a all stock, low mile block on hand, just incase. Thats why I thought I mine as well build it if Im getting another one.

just put this bad boy in it.

http://www.racingjunk.com/category/9...1/LSX-441.html

or this one.

http://www.motortopia.com/dragracer/...nce-parts-682/

either one could change the pistons to a 11:1CR for a daily driver.

427 sounds like a great street engine. Just curious, what is your budget for the total installation?

I have a 10,000 budget in mind. if I go over a little, thats fine, but if I can stay under, that would be awesome.

$10K for 427 complete, pan to headers, ur dreaming.

http://www.texas-speed.com/p-367-tsp...ong-block.aspx

That's $11K with not top quality internals. $13K with top shelf stuff Callies 4340 internals, PRC 285cc heads and Diamond slugs.

now u have to get a Fast ported intake, fast TB, LS9 injectors, LT headers 2" primary w/ 3 1/2" collector, new exhaust, gaskets, clutch, custom tune, etc. then unless ur planning on pulling ur old motor out and installing the new one urself look at $1800 $2000 to remove and replace the old one with the new one.

$10K will get u H/C/I on ur LS2 top end right now with a shop doing the work.

I would estimate $18K-$20K for a 427 stroker having a pro install it and tune it.

I have LT headers, injectors, and heads ( not complete yet) now, and I just got a fast 102 intake and TB from a friend, for a really good price too, so thats done. My tuner is the same guy I got the intake and TB from so I know Im good there. I do plan and swapping the motors myself also.

So I think 10 to 15 and ill have a pretty dialed street car?
