New motor build questions.
Im about to start a new motor build for my 05 GTO, but I have a few questions to ask first. I want to go at least a 418ci but would really like to get to 427ci with it. My questions are, can I get to 418ci on a LS2 without resleeving it, and still be safe on a NA application? bore the sleeves up to .030" and run a Eagle 4.100" crank for a 418ci? would that work or is a LS2 out of the question for what Im wanting to do? and I know I would be fine with a LSX block, but would weight be a issue for a everyday driver?
Thank you.
4.125 inch bore offers up more options on heads and they will end up with better flow numbers over 4 inch versions. Aftermarket sleeves are stronger than stock too. GM went larger bore on LS7 for a reason.
I am going to buy another block, im not going to use the one in my car now. I want to keep a stock one on hand, being that I live in Cali. And what would be the best compression to run with it? I want to stay NA for a little while then go FI.
Thanks
Stock or near stock cubes will make more power than you can use on the street with either turbo or Procharger with the boost turned up. AES has a iron block 390 that would be a great choice for D1 Procharger - price is reasonable too. If FI is what you ultimately want, your build will be a lot different than one for na or N20.
Good luck and keep us posted.
I checked out that 390 from AES, I really liked, good price too, it but I weighed in all my options, prices, and I am going to just get a LS2, resleev it and go 427ci and stay all motor. How does that sound?
So now I start looking for a block

I thought about H/C/I on my LS2 2006 GTO for $9K. I could not justify spending $9-$10K to get 100rwhp and 80rwtq. and i did not want to stroke it with only 45,000 miles on it and lay out another $5K.
Then I decided to get a maggie TVS 2300 blower and a guarantee of 550 to the ground for the same price, daily driver in daily downtown los angeles, CA traffic.

I did think about that. The only thing is I want to get another block. I want to keep a all stock, low mile block on hand, just incase. Thats why I thought I mine as well build it if Im getting another one.

or this one.

either one could change the pistons to a 11:1CR for a daily driver.

That's $11K with not top quality internals. $13K with top shelf stuff Callies 4340 internals, PRC 285cc heads and Diamond slugs.
now u have to get a Fast ported intake, fast TB, LS9 injectors, LT headers 2" primary w/ 3 1/2" collector, new exhaust, gaskets, clutch, custom tune, etc. then unless ur planning on pulling ur old motor out and installing the new one urself look at $1800 $2000 to remove and replace the old one with the new one.
$10K will get u H/C/I on ur LS2 top end right now with a shop doing the work.
I would estimate $18K-$20K for a 427 stroker having a pro install it and tune it.
